Why this place: If you are a first-timer to Taipei, and you are really looking for fresh sashimi, this is the place to go. If the sashimi is fresh, it is good. If the chef makes just a small chunk of rice and tops it with sashimi that flows over, you know it is REALLY good, and you are eating quality. Free flow miso soup (yes, as you have read in other reviews, lots of ingredients and very filling!) Go easy on the soup if you want to really satisfy your taste buds with every item on the menu!
What time to come: Wanlong is always my breakfast/brunch stop, every time I'm in Taipei, for the last 3 years (i visit taipei 3 to 4 times a yr). Come before 11am on weekends and before lunch hrs on weekdays(CLOSED ON MONDAYS!).
What else: By the time you are done, you are good to walk the whole Dihua Street (and area!) because most shops would open about 11am/past 11am. Head to No Worries or Comptoir nearby if you need coffee. They are good. No Worries has their own label of branded whisky, and it's good. Never to early for a whisky!
One more thing people dont tell you in reivews: Stop by Family Mart opposite and buy your own tea(cold/hot). Wanlong doesn't serve drinks. I told you, they mean business when it comes to sashimi, so they focus on your food, and you bring along your own drinks.
6 July 2025: i had salmon roe and uni gunkans x2 each and my usual red prawns and rotate...
Read moreWARNING: This is no longer the famous restaurant you used to visit, or have been recommended to visit.
There is new staff, and new rules, and new (bad) sushi.
you now must order for at least 280nt per person. this may sound fair, but the menu items are all priced around 250nt, so you are cheated into ordering a third meal. even if you are just 20nt short, you will be told to order another whole meal. (they do not sell drinks to help with this price)
The staff was extremely rude while telling us to do this, and to my shock, the Elderly couple on my left (they must be over 80 years old) was also disrespectfully told to order a third meal, that they were not able to finish. In other recent comments, i see they treat 6-year-olds no different.
Aside from this, The famous sushi of "this" restaurant is no longer tasty or fresh; the quality has also dropped significantly. Not only did the sushi not taste fresh - both me and my partner felt actual pain in our stomachs a few hours later.
They rely on the fame of the previous chef to scam everyone. I hope people will stop falling for...
Read moreBest sashimi ever 😍 Got 综合生鱼片 (assorted sashimi platter – we chose tuna and salmon!), 鱼腹生鱼片 (salmon belly), 香鱼 (sweetfish), 鲍鱼 (abalone) and 红虾 (giant shrimp). There’s miso soup for patrons to take as much as they like and it was brimming with all sorts of ingredients!
Sweetfish was quite good and full of eggs (roe). Abalone was so-so. Giant shrimp was also good – the sliced cabbage it was plated on had some mayo, so it was like eating a nice prawn salad? But would not order again as I don’t think it is worth the price. Just focus on the sashimi 🫶
All the sashimi were fresh and thickly cut and each slice was super satisfying 🤤 Salmon sashimi was sooo rich as well; it was as good as the salmon belly. Was really craving some green tea to cleanse my palate after every bite 🤣 Surprisingly I quite liked the tuna – not typically a fan of it but the ones here were very fresh.
Came again the next day for a salmon platter. If I had the stomach space I would also love to try the nigiri platter and makis 🥹 Very happy to have...
