Exotica Caribbean Kitchen - Thank you.
Over the past decade that I've come to know Taiwan, its lack of Caribbean food has always been on my list of strikes against it. Granted, some of us can cook Caribbean food in our apartments, but there is something very special about having a spot that serves your region's cuisines--authentically.
I took an impromptu trip to get to this place, and after having that Haitian legume (eggplant stew with meat and a side of rice), I won't lie to tell you that I felt a part of me restored. They recently opened with staple menu items and a fun and unique assortment of Caribbean bar foods that do well as a culinary introduction.
From the first bite of that Legumes, I was instantly reminded of my mother and her homecoming. Granted, we don't have this Legumes dish in my country per se, but the flavors were very familiar and very grounding.
I encourage those of you who are interested in home-cooked Caribbean dishes to try out @exoticataiwan. I wish it...
Read moreWe live very close to Exotica, and wish we had tried it sooner! We had a truly delicious dinner, and the cocktails were amazing as well. There wasn't a single thing we ordered that wasn't delicious. The beet and potato salad was healthy and super yummy, and paired well with the beautiful fried plantains (we thought these would be like chips, but they were thicker patties kind of like potato latkes, and were delicious). The fried plantains also came with this spicy slaw that had a kick and was addictive. The wings were some of the best I've had in Taipei. We had one of the chicken entrees and the chicken leg was seasoned wonderfully and perfectly tender. The rice that comes with the entrees is also so good--savory, with peas (?). For the whisky ginger cocktails, the owner Franz uses ginger juice that he squeezes by hand! The owners are super friendly and service was very good--prompt and accurate while also being warm and courteous. Looking forward...

The Rider went with friends to enjoy good Caribbean meal. I got more than I asked for.
Food: Though pricy, it was thoroughly appetizing. I had their Jerked Chicken and Red bean rice it was Nice! I wanted sure what to expect, it was flavorful with nice tasting spices, but it wasn't spicy. The plantains and pork was good too 😋
Service: The owners brought the Caribbean charm to the whole place. The chef came and met with us. Willing to listen happy to comply...
Atmosphere: My friends enjoy dancing and good Afrobeats. Even though it was small they cleared some space we danced and jived. Our fellow customers who were American, instead of being annoyed they join in the dancing too. We all had a swell time!
Tip: can't go to the Haiti or Jamaica, go to Exotica. Bring friends who can jive. Try the food and enjoy the jive. 🎉
Note to the owners: thank you for a great time. Will try find time...
