Hong Kong Dim Sum at Taipei. I was getting a little tired of eating the same type of food. So opted to walk to this Tim Ho Wan which is located near the Taipei Main station.
I was so looking forward to this. But it tuned out to be a great disappointment. The taste was just so so and it would be an exaggeration to say that a read Hong Kong person would return the dishes to the kitchen especially the vegetables. It was dry and over cooked. The Cheong fun was tasteless and soggy. The only thing I found acceptable was the har gao. I should have eaten McDonald like I initially planned.
This experience made me think about Tim Ho Wan of KL which closed down after some time. They gave some weird excuse about not able to cook with pork. Now I suspect the management are just not good at monitoring and maintaining the standard of their overseas operations. It is particularly telling when you have local who are able to do these dishes better than them.

Read moreHong Kong Braised Beef Dry Noodle ($248): The beef cutlets and tendons tasted great and similar to those in beef noodle soup. The noodles had thin and flexible texture.
Pineapple Bun with Butter ($138): It has become one of my favourite foods from now on. The saltiness the butter had, the sweetness of the bun, and the crispness of outer layers altogether made this delicacy one of my favourite foods in my entire life. No wonder they won 1-starred Michelin award and I will be back soon just for this special dim sum.
Hong Kong-Style Milk Tea ($118): It tasted quite authentic, distinctive and superb.
In conclusion, it took me about 15 minutes to wait for the seat at around 12:15 on Thursday but the efficiency was relatively high despite the business the restaurant confronted. The price is moderate and the closest exit of Taipei Station is M6. Overall, it’s definitely a 10 out of 10!

Read moreAfter reading mixed reviews I can confidently say this was a really satisfying experience. As vegetarian it was great seeing some clear options on the menu and the staff were great at answering questions and quick to identify the condiments on the table were not vegetarian friendly, providing me with an alternative. I really enjoyed the tofu and the noodles - it was very filling and tasty - and did the trick after a long day of walking. Ordering is done at the table through barcode scanning and the bill provided quickly making it easy to keep track of items ordered. We did not feel rushed despite the food arriving quickly. My husband who really enjoys Asian cuisine was so happy with his mixture of choices. The portions are perfect for sharing or ordering solo depending on whether you like sharing. The ambience is driven a lot by the crowd and for us on a Monday night there was a mixture of lively groups and quieter tables. We were focused on replenishing so...
