Khieng (เขียง) at Tha Phra Athit is a well-loved street food spot located in the vibrant area near the Chao Phraya River. Known for serving up classic Thai street food with a modern twist, Khieng is popular among both locals and tourists looking for authentic yet affordable meals.

Menu and Offerings: Khieng specializes in Thai stir-fried dishes, particularly pad krapao (stir-fried basil) and various fried rice options. One of the top choices is the stir-fried minced pork with basil, served over rice with a perfectly cooked fried egg on top. You can also customize your meal by choosing from different protein options such as chicken, beef, pork, or even seafood. The portions are generous, and the dishes are full of the rich, bold flavors that Thai food is famous for—spicy, savory, and aromatic with fresh herbs and spices.

Beyond stir-fries, the menu features popular Thai street food staples like fried chicken, grilled meats, and noodle dishes. For those who enjoy a bit of heat, Khieng doesn't hold back on the spiciness, which is a big hit among spice lovers.

Atmosphere and Service: The restaurant has a casual, laid-back vibe, with an open-air seating arrangement that allows you to enjoy the bustling street scene around Tha Phra Athit. It's an ideal spot for a quick, no-fuss meal. The staff are friendly and fast, ensuring that orders are taken care of promptly. Despite the simplicity, the focus remains on serving fresh and flavorful food.

Value for Money: Khieng is known for offering great value for money. The prices are affordable, especially considering the quality and portion sizes of the dishes. It’s a budget-friendly spot where you can indulge in authentic Thai street food without overspending, making it a favorite among students, locals, and tourists alike.

Overall Impression: Khieng (ท่าพระอาทิตย์) is a go-to spot for anyone craving delicious, authentic Thai street food in the heart of Bangkok. The flavorful dishes, especially the pad krapao and fried rice options, make it a reliable choice for a quick, satisfying meal. With its relaxed atmosphere and affordable prices, Khieng is perfect for anyone exploring the Tha Phra Athit area looking for a tasty, no-fuss...

If you are looking for a no frills neighborhood eatery with good food, this restaurant is just that. The entire space has maybe a max of 10 tabletops inside and outside. The menu is expansive with chicken, fish, shrimp, and pork. I don’t recall seeing beef but i may have overlooked it.

The food was delicious and came out in about 10 minutes. We ordered the pork with glass noodles, fish with basil and garlic, morning glory, and mango sticky rice. Their mango sticky rice is so far the best we have had in Bangkok. The serving sizes are on the smaller side but are fair for the prices. They filled me up fine but someone with a larger appetite may want doubles.

Service was fine. As I said, no frills so they get you what you want and go about their business. They are nice but not hovering and easy to get their attention if needed. A must visit if in the area for a delicious...

It is truly street food with finer touch and ingredients. Every dish is cooked fresh to order. I had squid with salted egg and sour cabbage soup with minced pork. The soup was a star. Rightly flavored and refreshing. Squid topping was generous in portion but the rice was probably not jasmine rice. There are dishes with instant noodles (mama) all Thais know and it is quite a nostalgia to see it in the menu. Service was good and quick as it should be for street food. I recommend that visitors to this...

I’m giving this great little place 5 stars for everything - taking in to account the place, the food and the price - it deserves it! It’s really cool Decor with a lovely mural on one side. Food was cooked quickly and really tasty, we had Tofu Pad Thai which was great and our other dish was fried rice & tofu which had a lovely smokey flavour to it. We just wandered by and discovered it - if you’re in the area and the hunger pangs call - drop by here and fill your boots!
