Baan Buri Café & Restaurant — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

Had dinner here after a day in Chiang Mai exploring temples and markets. We saw the great reviews and that it was close to where we were staying in the city and thought we’d try it out.

Long story short, the food is underwhelming. I can’t be too harsh because it’s clearly catering to a European/American clientele that can’t handle their spice, and so they’ve omitted it entirely from most of the dishes.

This restaurant isn’t even bad: the drinks are really good actually! I was just underwhelmed by the taste of the food and felt like I was crazy after reading such raving reviews. It makes sense now why we didn’t see any people who appeared to be Thai in the restaurant, apart from the service staff. I think it’s safe to say that when a restaurant in a place that has such a vibrant food culture as Thailand features chicken nuggets on their menu, it might only be for the crowd who go find Taco Bell...

Went early this morning around 8am and had the shop to myself. It’s very cozy and the music selection is great. I ordered the house signature coffee in hot and it came with two biscuits and a packet of sugar. Ate the biscuits and didn’t need the sugar cuz the coffee was great! I ordered the French toast for sustenance and it was good, the bread was very fluffy, which was amazing. The fruits were delicious, and the syrup wasn’t super sweet like American syrup. I would definitely come back again, they have a huge menu and I want to try their other selections!

Their dishes are reasonably priced for serving American and British style fare with plenty of brunch food options (the menu is a tome). The staff are so friendly and the dining area is exceptional.

However, there was a long wait time to receive our food. I had the waffle special with seasonal fruit and felt that the fruit wasn't in season. The mango wasn't ripe and the passion fruit was on the sour side. This was the same experience for many of the...
