Ghin — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

The ambiance was wonderful. As soon as we walked in, we felt like we were in a high-end restaurant. The service was attentive and quick to take our orders as soon as we closed our menus. The menu itself was visually appealing and offered intriguing Thai-European fusion options. Our water glasses were consistently refilled throughout the evening, and the mains arrived shortly after the starter.

Unfortunately, all of this set us up for disappointment. Despite their beautiful presentation, the dishes lacked flavor. Some were unbalanced, like the prawn ceviche, which was overwhelmingly sour. Others, like the salmon, were bland and underseasoned. We’ve had far more flavorful meals at street markets for a fraction of the price, or at much more affordable local restaurants.

To top it off, a 17% charge was added at the end, which left a sour impression. Every other restaurant we visited in Chiang Mai included taxes and service fees in their listed prices, which felt far more transparent. I wanted to give 3 stars at first, but decided to remove one more for this.

The food and drinks were delicious. Staff were very attentive. My favorite thing about this restaurant is the decor, it's absolutely stunning. Everything was beautiful, from the gold bamboo-style cutlery to the loose linen napkins and pale spotted plates, the pale green cushions, the gold painted filigree on the walls and the woven straw decorations in the windows. My girlfriends and I truly enjoyed our lunch here! We stumbled upon the restaurant on a rainy day when everywhere else was closed. The staff were so welcoming and kind. The aesthetics of this restaurant (and of the hotel) were stunning! I could not stop taking photos of everything. The food at the actual restaurant was delicious! And same with the drinks. I am eager to visit Ghin again, and even to stay...
