Hidden in the shadows, two streets behind Le Meridian, you'll find, Le Bistrot de Chiang Mai. I read all the Google reviews and it seemed OK for Thailand. I ordered mountain sausage to start and the ribeye wagyu for main with gratin potatoes. I've been underwhelmed before with steaks in high class restaurants in Thailand, so curbed my enthusiasm. They offered me bread to start, I refused. They offered me bread with my mountain sausage, again I refused. Hoping I wasn't offending the chef/owner, as bread is not on my diet, although if it was, French bread would be top of this list. The mountain sausage came with a side salad and a dish of 3 or 4 pickles. They were very good. The main course arrived, my wagyu ribeye a side salad and the gratin potatoes. Now, I'm not a chef, but I appreciate good food. The gratin potatoes were semi-set in their custard (I hope this is what you call it) and were not full of liquid dribbling all over the place, which is exactly the way I like it. The 'custard' was nicely flavoured with the potatoes firm to the bite but well cooked. Onto the wagyu ribeye. When asked how I would like it cooked, I said as the chef says. Normally I would go medium for a standard ribeye but as its wagyu, I'll be lead by the chef. Looking at it there was a nice strip of fat through the middle, which was like crispy jelly to the touch. The fat flavour had permeated through the meat and the taste was incredible. I'm not sure what the weight of the meat was, but it was perfect for me. The restaurant is nicely designed with big wooden tables and the staff are great. I had the full bodied house red (can't remember the name) but it was a great pairing for the steak. The ribeye was 1450 baht, but was more than worth it. I finished off with a brandy and espresso, which was great. A French oasis...

Nestled in an awesome location, Le Bistrot offers a culinary experience that is simply outstanding. During my recent visit, I had the pleasure of tasting the Tournedos Rossini for the main course, and it was a true delight. The meat was incredibly tender, so much so that a knife seemed almost unnecessary. Paired with the best-mashed potatoes I have ever tasted, every bite was a flavor explosion that left me craving more.
For dessert, I indulged in their Tiramisu, and it was equally exceptional. Each layer was perfectly balanced, creating a harmonious blend of flavors that left a lasting impression. The attention to detail in both dishes was evident, showcasing the skill and passion of the chefs at Bistrot.
The ambiance of the restaurant is another highlight of the dining experience. With mellow jazz music playing in the background, the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, making it the perfect setting for a memorable meal. The combination of great food, soothing music, and impeccable service creates a dining experience that is truly unforgettable.
In conclusion, I can't recommend Bistrot enough. Whether you're a food enthusiast looking for a culinary adventure or simply seeking a cozy spot to enjoy a delicious meal, Le Bistrot is the place to be. With its perfect location, exquisite dishes, and inviting ambiance, Le Bistrot is a gem that should not be missed. Make sure to add it to your list of must-visit restaurants – you won't be...
Read moreAbsolutely exceptional! This charming French restaurant in Chiang Mai gave us a meal to remember. From the moment we sat down, the warm, cozy ambiance and friendly service made us feel welcomed.
We started our dinner with a beautiful glass of wine — because in a French restaurant, it’s always wine o’clock! 🥂 The fresh salads were vibrant and full of flavor, perfectly paired with crusty French bread and creamy pumpkin soup that was out of this world.
For mains, the presentation alone was art! The tenderlion with Foie gras was tender and rich , and the truffle mashed potatoes were unbelievably smooth. The sausages were perfectly grilled and paired with velvety mash that pulled everything together.
Everything was clearly made with care, and the flavors were authentically French with a local touch. It felt like a little escape to Paris right here in Chiang Mai. ✨
Highly recommended for anyone who loves fine food, excellent wine, and an unforgettable dining experience. We’ll definitely be...
