I was expecting a great place after all the good reviews and i was disappointed. To be fair, when I sat down they did warn me that there would be a 40 minute wait for food bur I had travelled some distance to try this "hidden gem". I ordered a large Chang (90 Baht, that's expensive) and a Penang curry for 60 Baht and rice was an extra 10 Baht. The wait was 30 minutes which is the longest I've ever had to wait for food in Chiang Mai. Not a good sign. The penang curry arrives after 30 minutes and it's not Penang curry, it's a Masaman curry. How do I know this? Well, it wasn't red it was more a yellow colour and had potatoes in it. To be fair it was a pretty good Masaman curry but that wasn't what I ordered. Coupled with the expensive Chang and the long wait and I think I'm being a wee bit generous on a 3 rating. When I tried to get the bill the guy who took my order was nowhere to be seen. I did the nice thing and took my empty plates and glass to the desk and the young girl who'd been cleaning up noticed that I wanted to pay said in very good English "160 Baht". She was impressive :-) The guy who took my order, got it wrong and then disappeared, wasn't very good. Maybe he's new? I will return to give this place a second chance but at 90 Baht for a Chang I will try breakfast next time. They do have free wifi and fans. For those of you who gave this place 5 stars, you have obviously never been to Ghia kitchen (not far away and have never disappointed) or to Grazie local Thai food (also never...
Read moreAt first I didn't like the menu, it looks boring with bad quality photos of average dishes, prices are not dirt cheap as I expected. I browsed through the menu many times and decided to order chicken with ginger (60B) and side rice (10B), was expecting tiny servings, but surprisingly the size of both servings was bigger than I anticipated, I took one photo showing the chicken dish and rice, then another photo after I covered the rice with some of the chicken with ginger, there was enough in the chicken dish to serve two people! See photos.
Comes to taste, pretty OK, plenty of chicken meat and ginger shreds, not spicy hot. Rice is soft not dry and hard in lumps like at some other restaurants. Good amount of animal protein for 60B, if you are starving for animal protein but can't afford steak then this place fits your need.
The only bad side is its location, it is surrounded by massage parlors, maybe disturbing at night time to walk pass all those pushers in front of...
Read moreBeing a picky American, I've been slowly trying new Thai food. At this place, I didn't have to. The fried chicken and chips were great and the Thai dish my wife purchased was also very good. The portions were large and the price is incredible. The only thing I can knock is cleanliness and service. The service wasn't much of a problem as long as you realize that you need to take care of yourself. Let them know when/what you want to order, treat yourself to the drinks you want, and let them know when you want the check (they sum up the meal and drinks you consumed). The cleanliness was a minor turnoff with little ants crawling up the wall, general upkeep seemingly a little off, and then a cute cat turned snot rocket sitting on the chair next to us. The food quality and plates were of no concern, though. The food and the price is...
