After our last year’s disappointing experience at Seen Restaurant (see my review from Feb 2021) I looked around for less known rooftop restaurants in Bangkok and came across Nimitr. We were staying close by, so I thought I’d give it a go for our date night. It wasn’t easy to find as not many people in the area seem to know of the place. But we finally found the hotel that it’s a part of (137 Pillars) and was shown up to the 27th floor. First impressions were great. The restaurant was beautifully done in a dark modern design that didn’t feel oppressive because of its very high ceiling and large windows looking out over the city. It was a comfortable evening so we chose to eat outdoors. There isn’t a lot of seating, but there weren’t a lot of people either. Maybe because we were there on a weeknight, but still not a good sign. We went with the 4 course set dinner, which seemed very reasonably priced for such a place. My expectations were diminishing, given the relatively low price and slow business. Once dinner was ordered, with cocktails in hand, we explored the small area. It really is a beautiful view, with the added bonus of a rooftop pool that allowed for great selfies. The cocktails were well poured (unlike the light cocktails we usually get in Thailand), so when entrees were served, we were both in good moods. The oysters tasted fresh, and my little fried up truffle cheese samosas were surprisingly tasty. Language barriers (come to Thailand enough and you take that in stride) caused us to get cocktails we didn’t order, but we just took them anyway. The mains were on the small side, which explained the reasonable prices, but very tasty. And though they were small, after desserts, we were both quite full… probably because of those extra cocktails. The service was pleasant, you felt like they were trying to do things right. All in all, we feel like we’ve discovered a hidden gem. We’re planning to go back with some friends soon but will swear them to secrecy. Don’t want this place getting so popular that they don’t try hard anymore, like that place we went...
Read moreAbsolutely outstanding lunch at Nimitr at 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok today. Chef Maxim Baile and his team really do a wonderful job with exceptionally plated food that is as good to eat as it looks.
The five-course menu is a journey of culinary genius, artistic presentation and gastronomic flavours that intertwine all the known flavours: sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami. Don't believe me?
Start your meal with a light and tasty amuse bouche which Chef Maxim creates fresh every day. We ordered Slow-cooked pork tenderloin ham carpaccio with tonnato taramara sauce and Beetroot Ravioli with spinach and ricotta served with carbonara sauce as our appetisers and both we full of freshness, wonderful flavours and contrasting textures: perfect for sharing too.
Chef Maxim suggested we try the V.G.E. consommé with foie gras and truffle and a thin outer crust which was created by Paul Bocuse in 1975 especially for former French President Giscard d'Estaing. It is a light and tasty soup; genuinely enjoyable. We paired this with a stronger, tastier Japanese soup of Smoked eel & Hamachi Dashi with Soba. Certainly packs a punch and succulent eel.
A quick detour to cleanse the palate and a super citrus sorbet infused with wild pepper and gold leaf. Yummy!
On to the main course and the highly recommended Pork belly served with Broccolini, almond and tamarind sauce and Risotto Verde with tiger prawn and mixed seafood. Two top notch dishes that serve up a generous splash of colour infused with hints of spice and varying textures. Again, two superb dishes to share.
And finally, dazzling desserts of Chocolate burnt honey cake and Raspberry yoghurt cremeux are the best way to finish your meal. Light and fluffy raspberry youghut cake and strong, flavoursome chocolate. Viola! C'est Bon

Read moreA hidden gem in Bangkok. The food is tasty. The restaurant is poolside at the rooftop of the building. It was our anniversary and the staff surprised us with a personalized dessert (not pictured for privacy). We opted to go for variety hence the many dishes we ordered from the front of the menu. We were full. For a fine dining restaurant, I think this is a great place to check out and it wasn’t busy at all for a Wednesday night. My date wanted photos and the staff helped her snap a bunch of very memorable and beautiful shots, above and beyond your typical ‘can you take a photo for me’ request.
Pork neck was the winner. That deep fried papaya with sauce was so good. The pork neck (or was it pork jowl, I forget) tasted so good on its own.
Red curry duck was amazing. Probably the best I’ve personally had. The curry flavor was just perfect for me. Not sweet, not salty. Just the perfect balance for my taste buds and the duck leg was cooked perfect too.
Shrimp dish with banana blossom was a great course to start with.
Northern style beef salad. This was yummers although if one doesn’t like the texture of raw beef, I’d pass on this. It wasn’t a dish served hot from wha to guess was minimal cooking of the beef. Flavors was good. I’d order a different dish next time.
Desserts were not overly sweet. I forget the names of these dishes but it’s on the photos in the menu.
Definitely...
