Our experience at Indulge was that of mixed results. I don’t like to go to 3 star places when on vacation but trust me when I say you’ll want to go here if you can handle my article size review. Unfortunately this restaurant reveals the flaw in giving a restaurant a review score.
For starters we had the Thai Steak Tartare and it was lacking in seasoning. The secret to a good tartare is in the seasoning because you’re serving raw meat and instead of doing that they had the meat, 2 different kinds of onions, and a few sliced radishes. Not even some salt was added and you will find that to be a recurring theme here. For the main course I had the Coffee & Lemongrass Pork Belly. The meat was cooked perfectly and it was ridiculously easy to cut into with a fork. However, the great presentation and perfect cook was ruined when I put the food in my mouth and once again couldn’t taste any flavors. Where was the seasoning? I had to wonder if the chef was aware that salt exists. Adding table salt instantly improved the dish but still left a lot to be desired. My wife had a chicken and rice dish that made her tell me something was off with it. When I tasted the chicken once again the food was missing at the very least salt. Even the free bread in the beginning missed the mark with unusual bread and bitter butter.
The reviews were great for this restaurant and one thing we noticed is that nearly all of the photos were of dessert so we knew that this place must specialize in dessert. Had we not known that we would not have ordered dessert because we were so turned off by the starters and main course. The dessert was amazing! It was very creative, full of flavors, and plentiful. If this place only served dessert I would give it 4 or 5 stars. I would strongly recommend visiting this place even if just for the dessert.
The cocktails is another area where this restaurant flexes its creativity muscles. All of our drinks were great and the rest looked great too.
As for the service it was good but definitely has room for improvement. In the beginning it felt like they were rushing us by making recommendations every minute rather than at once when they seated us. There was also an insane amount of menus. The wine menu on the wine bottle was brilliant but then they also gave each of us a wine book. Then they walked back to our table with a diner mat sized cocktail menu for each of us. Then they returned with the actual menu on a clipboard with breakfast through dinner (and an additional main course menu that is separate from the dinner menu). It was a mess on our table with all of the menus. It’s just a few restaurant basics that need improvement. 1) Ask if we want a wine menu but mention that it’s the same as the wine menu on the bottle. Also provide 1 wine menu for the table. 2) Provide 1 cocktail menu for the table (or 1 menu per 2 guests). 3) Make the recommendations at one time when providing the menu. Otherwise the service was great. You can see that they keep the place clean. If this restaurant only served dessert but the service stayed the same I’d give it 4 stars. Then again if they only served dessert they’d have fewer menus so maybe I’d...
Read moreAfter having a drink in Soi Cowboy we wanted a place to eat with good food and close by, searching the app we saw this restaurant and only 100yds from Cowboy.
The restaurant is low light with a trendy modern feel, electronic house music playing a a nice level that you can hear but dont have to shout when speaking to your companion. seating from couples to large groups. There are 2 drinking areas, one outside on a decked area looking out to the main road with bar styled stools and another inside which is more luxurious and private having sofas to sit at while enjoying your drinks.
A small platter of charcoal bread, spinach bread another bread with homemade butter will be bought for you as an entree, nicely presented and tasted great. Drinks menu had a nice range of wines available, reds, whites and rosé to. A nice variety of cocktails also available plus the usual spirits/beers. The cocktails we ordered were nicely prepared, came with a paper straw which was a nice touch considering how much plastic is polluting the planet and had a generous measure of alcohol. Menu had a nice range of western food and Thai food to. Not many vegetarian options available but I saw a mushroom risotto with truffle oil that took my fancy straight away so didn't need to ask if they could cook something on the menu that had meat in for a vegetarian. I took the tomato soup starter with the mushroom risotto, both dishes were presented beautifully but more importantly tasted great! The tomato soup was a little watery for my liking but this is just a personal preference, I do like my soup to be more creamy, very tasty tho with the goat cheese melt added! The risotto was superb! Full of flavour and perfectly prepared by not being to runny or like sticky rice. A nice helping of mushrooms were lined to the side and not mixed through the dish giving you choice on how much mushrooms you wanted in each bite, brilliant! My girlfriend took a salmon starter with a thai fish main, she said both were very tasty and looked great! All dishes were a good portion size, so much so we could not fit a dessert which is a shame as I saw a couple of desserts delivered and they looked amazing!
Service was super friendly, polite and attentive where needed. All staff had a good vocabulary of English and understood exactly what was required . Service charge is included in the price at a reasonable 10% but we left a little extra as the staff were so good.
For 2x starters, 2x mains 2x cocktails plus service and tax look to pay around 2200 bhat, for the quality of food and location that's good value. It would be nice to see more vegetarian options added to the menu. Definitely a place to try if you're in the area looking...
