If you've are at Sukhumvit road and got hungry, I can highly recommend Charlie's Kitchen Soi 4. (You've arrived at one of the red light district - but make no mistake here are good food).
The restaurant has both Thai, Japanese and European food. Restaurants there are trying it - often serve low quality food. But not here!
Their Thai dishes are of high quality! Authentic but refined. By this I mean that the taste is authentic - but eg no bone fragments from cutting up the chicken. Serving and service is fine. Their Japanese dishes are prepared with care and fresh ingredients.
I highly recommend for example: Starting with Sushi. Fresh and very tastefully Tom Kar Gai (chicken soup with coconut milk) - wonderful flavor harmony of the many spice herbs included in this law. Tasteful without being particularly strong spicy. They're doing this right masterfully! Khao neow Ma Muang (One of the best desserts - Mango - sticky rice with coconut milk and crunch of mung beans)
I have been there many times! Most often serving efficient and qualified! Large parts of the staff have been there for years. However, once a somewhat poor quality in serving - but they have also to...

I ordered some salmon sashimi, and let me tell you about the size of the slices they cut! 5 giant slices, with 2 medium size prism cut pieces. The phrat kaphrao gai was amazing. The sauce was flavorful, and the dish was packed with chili (I ask for spicy). They didn't make the spice overpowering (wish they did until I seen the amount of food I had). I paired the chicken with fried rice with lump crab. And that was also great. Though I wish there would have been more crab.
Overall I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a good meal at a fair restaurant price. It's not cheap like the street shops but it's not priced out like the overrated fancy spots.
I gave the atmosphere a lesser score because it just had a normal small kitchen vibe to it. Nothing spectacular but...
Read moreThis restaurant is a welcome reprieve from the hustle and bustle of Soi 4 and nearby Nana Plaza. It is a bit of a misnomer to label Charlies as a Thai restaurant. While there is an ample number and variety of good quality Thai dishes on the menu; Charlie's also offers an extensive selection of sushi and sashimi and a nice selection of Western dishes when you are looking for a break from the wonderful Asian food that dominates the Bangkok restaurant scene.
The restaurant is kept very clean and has great Air Conditioning to help you recover from the Bangkok heat and humidity. The seating is comfortably situated to provide enough separation from the other customers to allow a pleasant, quiet conversation with your dining partners.
The prices are very reasonable and the service is prompt and friendly. A very good meal and dining experience is what you get...
