The hostess was polite and inquired as to a reservation. She then helped direct me to the proper side (apparently there are two, the other being Chinese). I was then greeted by the server, who started out nice but then got argumentative with me.
I wanted to order 1 mocktail,1 spider roll, and some nigiri (2 otoro, 2 hamachi, 2 hamago) to start. I also wanted to order a good teppenyaki dinner with a tenderloin as the main and some fried rice.
I have eaten Teppanyaki around the world, mostly at Benihanas and knockoffs like this one, but also at real ones in Tokyo. I think I am old enough, wealthy enough, traveled enough, and knowledgeable enough about my own body to decide what I want to order and eat.
Apparently, the waitress decided FOR ME that I was NOT allowed to order a spider roll, I was NOT allowed to order mushrooms with my teppenyaki, and I was most definitely NOT allowed to order rice. She made this quute clear. I should have left on the spot, but I am tired and hungry.
As I am writing this, a food runner placed 6 pieces of nigiri in front of me, even though the waitress said that I was only allowed to order a mix of 5 pieces. She came up and asked what piece I wanted to remove from my order. I have never experienced this level of serving confusion before.
Next, the grill was still dirty from the last chef, so the new one had to spend minutes cleaning it while we watched. He was very nice and a good chef.
Food good. Waitress again argued about rice. Food eaten. Plates and sides removed. Melon dessert served. No bill.
To sum it all up:
Would not allow me to order rice. Would not allow me to order mushrooms. suddenly, the chef was making fried rice. I'm confused.
Chatted with the asst mgr who was INCREDIBLY nice and wonderful and offered a 50% discount. I couldnt even complain that 3000 baht is not half of 4000, but no complaints as the food was decent and the manager was 4-star. But I do hate being lied to.
Even though she tried, she also lied to me about the 50% discount. Combined with other recent negative Marriott experiences, it makes me rethink my Titanium lifetime Bonvoy status and I am now looking to switch my travels to Hyatt, or...
Read moreOverpriced for what you get and no flare at all. When one thinks of Teppanyaki it’s got to be compared to Benihana. The way this is set up we made a comment that it’s MiniHana as the tables are about half the size of Benihana. At least those in the States.
Our group of 4 went in expecting great food and a great experience, however, we were severely let down. Our chef at least had a personality and had some skills, could throw the salt and pepper shakers around, could juggle the eggs but not much else. Again, thinking about the show being half the fun of this type of dinner, seemed like he was just starting out but said he was there for 3 years. The chef at the next table over had absolutely nothing. Could hit is fork on the grill while shaking the salt and pepper but absolutely nothing else.
The food was tasty but our group ordered the Chicken x 2, the pork loin and the scallops which were prepared the exact same way with heavy garlic and soy sauce. The only difference was the texture of the meat. We didn’t try the Wagyu or Kobe beef but if they are also prepared the same way I would be mad that they would ruin the beef this way. Especially at the overpriced cost of the meal.
Anyway, for a JW Marriott they absolutely need to consider improving this experience. We went based on the high reviews but they are very overrated. Someone mentioned that if they had to pay full price it wouldn’t be worth it and they are right. We paid full price and left dissatisfied. I don’t normally review much but totally disappointed and others need...
Read moreI'm a Marriott Titanium Elite so I tend to eat in Marriott Restaurants so to earn points.
I'm not staying in JW Marriott this time. Went Nami for lunch coz I found great deal from Eatigo for late lunch there. We arrived at 1:15pm and ordered quite a lot of food. Mature Kurobuta Pork Loin, NZ lamb tenderloin, Oz waygu beef striploin and Kuroge waygu fried rice.
Overall, there's a big problem... The chef cook pork, lamb and beef like fried rice. While each of the meat were cooked separately, they were cut and cooked mixed together like Chinese with wok. This is not a cheap place even with Eatigo discount. I can't believe my eyes but you can check the pics.
Now, let's talk about the dishes one by one. Mature Kurobuta means aged pork per the Japanese words on the menu. Are you kidding? They taste like regular pork and they are very lean. Don't order it!
We want medium for the lamb an medium-rare for the beef. Both were over cooked. And you probably can tell from the pic, too much oil!
For the fried rice, it's probably the most delicious dish for the lunch but please look closer. The fatty beef aren't fine cut. You need to get rid of them while eating. If the chef is better, the fatty beef will be fine cut and you can't find them in the fried rice.
I'm not sure if the chef was in a rush but this restaurant is over priced too much base on the...
