Sharing an earlier experience with Thai Niyom today on 12th June 2025. I am a tourist in Bangkok and I chance upon this Michelin guide restaurant near my favorite Thai restaurant Madam Somtum which is just few shops away. I took my client to a business lunch and we both left unimpressed. We ordered 3 food items: 1. Crispy Thai Omelet with crab 2. Fried rice grill pork neck rice and 3. sea bass soup with picked bamboo - yellow curry. Both the first 2 items were perfect especially the crispy omelet. However the last item took very long. We asked for it 2 times and the last time we want to cancel as we need to go back to work (waited for 40m to go back to work). The server claimed that it was ready and unable to cancel. Nonetheless we go ahead with the fish. However, the fish tastes really fishy and stale. We feedback to the server who changed the item and serve again after 15m. Same thing again and the fish is not fresh. We feedback to the server who consulted the chef. I took the fish and ask the server to smell himself. He claimed the chef and himself bought the fish from the market this morning and there is no issue. I asked him to get the chef to try himself if he claimed the fish was ok which is obviously not. He asked if we have tried this yellow curry with pickled bamboo and it should taste like that. He feedback that most foreigners shared the feedback but there is nothing wrong with the fish. I didn't expect this low standard from a michelin guide restaurant as the experience was truly unacceptable based on the feedback and service provided. First, I am paying 3-4 times more than normal restaurant and I didn't expect the doubt from the server. As this is a business lunch, we didn't make a scene and they did not offer to take this item off. I told the server to inform the chef not to serve the same fish to other customers as the fish is not fresh and if they claim that their yellow curry taste (in my perspective very horrible and fishy), then they should not serve this item on their menu since BKK has a lot of tourists and if half of the patrons will not like it, they should remove it from the menu. I strongly recommend not to try this restaurant based on their upclass self claim attitude. Everyone who taste seafood know not to eat stale seafood as they will have a smell. Its an insult to the general public with common sense. DO NOT ORDER "sea bass soup with picked bamboo - yellow curry"! I enjoy Madam Somtum food with local touch and better services. Should remove this Thai Niyom from Michelin Guide as they do not reflect a Michelin Guide restaurant in term of food...
Read moreMy favorite so far is the wagyu skirt steak (see photo) with white rice. It tasted very juicy and the sauce was nice if I wanted spiciness. The vegetables it came with were fresh. I also prefer white rice to fried rice and so I liked that about it and the other grilled items on the menu.
My biggest complaint about this place is that it takes a long time for them to cook everything. Then again, they have a huge menu, so perhaps that's a tradeoff where they don't specialize in a few meals but then it takes longer to cook.
The Sai-oua pork sausage (photo) was also good. A little spicy and tasted good. It had the same vegetables as the skirt steak. Maybe less healthy a little if you think beef is healthier than sausage.
The melinjo leaves stir fried with eggs is delicious if you want that kind of thing. Maybe too fried? But also really good.
The pandan jelly dessert isn't great. I would've tried the coconut ice cream but it has some cow milk in it.
The scrambled eggs with shrimp over rice was just okay. Not great.
The Pad Khai Khem is delicious. It has a tasty sauce and comes with meat.
The Thai omelet (photo) was interesting but not my favorite. It's very crunchy, which I guess means it's fried? It wasn't bad but I prefer not having fried foods and wasn't exceptional tasting or anything.
The calamari thing (name? see photo anyways) was alright but not great.
The crab curry (pictured) is too spicy for me.
The Gai Yang Kati, grilled chicken, is not great. It's okay. The Wagyu Skirt Steak is similar but better.
The Pad Pong Karee is great. It's stir fried meat and curry powder, eggs, onions and celery. Love it and will order again. I got it with calamari, which was good, but might try a different...
Read moreIt did not take us long to appreciate what the Michelin guide food critics saw in this culinary paradise tucked away along a quiet street in Bangkok. Thai Niyom Cuisine impressed us with the mouth-watering quality of its food, beautiful ambience, aesthetic presentation, excellent service standards, and affordable prices to boot!
We tried their famous Khao Soi, crispy Thai omelette (with pork cracklings), Tom Yum Fried Rice, and spicy stir-fried morning glory. All the dishes were simply delectable, with the stars being the crispy Thai omelette, and surprisingly, the morning glory. The morning glory was particularly spicy so you might opt to try something different if your spice tolerance is not the best! The Khao Soi was great with a combination of noodles in two textures and broth with a strong coconut character. The Tom Yum Fried Rice was delicious too, with its rich Tom Yum flavour and juicy selection of mushrooms.
Prices were affordable for a restaurant which had consistently earned a place on the Michelin Guide over the past five years. Most dishes were between 150 Baht to 250 Baht, with some finer dishes costing more. For a dinner of four dishes and two drinks, we paid just over 1000 Baht.
Thai Niyom Cuisine is easy to get to. It is a stone's throw away from the nearest BTS station - Phloen Chit. Standing outside the restaurant, one can literally see the BTS station. It's also easy to call and wait for a Grab, as the restaurant is situated along a quiet side street.
All in all, Thai Niyom Cuisine certainly lives up to its reputation and popularity. Thanks for a memorable dining experience at the...
