If you love good chocolate, this is your crack den. Located on the 57th floor of the Centara Grand Hotel, it’s a hidden “cave” in the cognac bar that sits up there overlooking all of Bangkok. It’s not readily visible, you have to take two different elevators, go through a fancy restaurant on the 55th floor and climb a two-story winding staircase to reach the cognac bar, but don’t worry — the restaurant staff will intercept you and guide you to where you’re going. Once up there, have a drink and take in the incredible city views. You’ll need that drink, because eating lots of chocolate will make you thirsty. Ask the waiter to take you to the chocolate “buffet” and for a little under a grand in baht per person you’ll be taken into the hidden chocolate den. All I can say is prepare yourself for nothing you’ve ever seen before. Absolutely beautifully crafted chocolates, white, milk and dark, all over the place. Everything is labeled and some are even crafted with liquor or cognac. You are allowed to stay in the small “cave” and sample everything to your heart’s content, all you can eat. The only caveat is that once you leave, you cannot return. There are two chocolate fountains, milk and white, and plenty of kiwi and strawberries to dip. So delicious. There is also soft serve ice cream, with chocolate dipped sugar cones (of course!). The chocolate ice cream has some kind of liquor in it. It’s self serve, and I sampled a twist of both. Now I want to tell you, I own my own commercial soft serve machine and I make the top shelf 10% butterfat ice cream, and I didn’t think it possible to be any creamier than that. Their ice cream seemed even more delicious and creamier than what I can get. Sample the ice cream no matter how sickeningly full of chocolate you are (and believe me, you won’t be able to stop yourself before getting there lol). The only criticism I had, if it’s even a criticism (because I could see if the space were larger the atmosphere would be different and not necessarily better), is it can be a bit tight in there with more than a few people at a time. That aside, if you like high quality chocolates, this is your heaven. It doesn’t get any better. It’s not cheap, three of us spent about 5,400 baht on three drinks and our trip into the cave.
