Tan Kun at CentralWorld – A Steakhouse with Exceptional Hospitality
Steakhouses are a dime a dozen in Bangkok, a city where great food is almost a given. With so many options available, stepping into one does not usually feel necessary, as quality is often comparable. However, what sets Tan Kun apart is not just its food but its service and attention to detail, which add an extra layer of warmth and hospitality, making it stand out in a crowded dining scene.
From the moment we entered, Tan Kun’s attentiveness was evident. The waiting staff were not only polite but also genuinely engaged, offering recommendations if we were unsure about what to order. The generosity of the restaurant was also notable, as they provided complimentary drinks and desserts, enhancing the overall dining experience.
After a long walk in Bangkok’s warm evening, we were greeted with a refreshing iced pandan-flavoured house drink, which was sweet, fragrant, and instantly cooling. It was a thoughtful touch that immediately set a positive tone for the meal. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture, but it was a delightful surprise.
For mains, we ordered a T-bone steak (medium) and garlic cabbage. As expected, the steak was well-executed, as most restaurants in central Bangkok deliver on quality. However, I found the garlic cabbage portion slightly insufficient and felt that the side cabbage served with the T-bone steak could have been better seasoned. Since I had already tasted the flavourful garlic cabbage, it was natural to compare it with the side cabbage, which lacked the same strong stir-fry aroma that would have enhanced its flavour profile.
One of the most memorable aspects of our visit was the unexpected double serving of complimentary desserts. The first round was a pandan-flavoured panna cotta-style dessert, which was soft, moist, and creamy—absolutely delicious. When the staff mistakenly served us a second portion, we let them know we had already received it, but they warmly asked if we could still enjoy another serving. Of course, we gladly accepted!
By the time we left Tan Kun, we did not just feel satisfied with the food—we felt treasured and appreciated. The restaurant’s emphasis on service and hospitality made it feel like home, which is something that truly sets it apart from other steakhouses in the area. If you are looking for a place where customer care is just as important as the food, Tan Kun is a worthy visit.

Read morePlease note this place does not accept AMEX credit cards. I specially asked whether AMEX credit cards are accepted and even showed my card before I entered the restaurant and I was told Yes. Hence I ordered my lunch and at the end of the meals - my Amex card was not accepted by the payment systems because well this place does not accept AMEX cards in the first place. So why would you staff tell me that you guys accept AMEX credit cards in the first place? All I got was sorry sorry I'm so sorry and nothing else. Your apology means nothing to me because it will be a huge hassle for me to claim the lunch now that it is under my personal card. That is exactly why I asked whether Amex credit cards are accepted before I entered the restaurants and I even showed your staff the card. I am very disappointed by the terrible service here. Please get your facts right and inform your customers correctly! Not only that when does your staff even bother informing me about a promotion some beef bowl, and then when I said okay yes I'll get it- lo and behold - item is not available/ready.
What the..... do you guys get off on telling your customers false and incorrect information or something??? Get your facts right or train your staff to be more knowledge on the (available) menu items and the (accepted) credit cards please. Its a simple...
Read moreA restaurant specialising in beautifully cooked beef. Their dishes are served on fragrant banana leaf in the traditional Thai style --- the banana leaf and perfectly cooked jasmine rice makes a huge difference.
Would highly recommend the Tan Kun beef bowl and the stir fried cabbage.
The atmosphere of the restaurant hints to the classical Thai lifestyle and with the restaurant situated in the Hug Thai zone of centralwOrld, you can really immerse yourself in the Thai culture.
Note: for those who don't eat beef, there are some limited pork options available.
Edit: the service is also impeccable. We recently went for another visit and they made a very slight mistake with one of the dishes and the chef re-fired the steak and gave us a complimentary drink as an apology. Very impressed.
Edit: recently tried their non-beef options. Both the pad thai carbonara and Tan Kun pork bowl...
