I'm a food connoisseur, I travel in Asia so I can find the best Chinese regional foods, as well as their most famous. you can say I travel to sample culinary excellence. Bangkok is many things, sometimes you can find really great Chinese restaurants other times It's just overpriced, focused on tourists and mostly a rip off. this experience is the latter. Sichuan cuisine is a major regional food group within the Chinese cuisine, and they have some great stuff I tried three of the most famous, All of which from this restaurants flagship menu, which means this is what they do best, well at least that's what they claim, I think the food deserves a three-star, because it is fast food style, the chefs are kids recruited at the lowest cost possible, It's run fast food style. two of the dishes is not bad, but the beef Cold plate is terrible. The quality of the beef shank, there's just no excuse. it has no taste just has chili oil poured over it and it is so rough it is embarrassing, especially for the price that they're asking for. The spicy chicken taste was okay but they hardly give you any chicken It's mostly just chilli, again for the price they charge, it is terrible terrible value. Now comes their flagship sour fish soup dish which is supposed to be their best and claim to fame, it was average, then consider the cost they charge, it's just no good. The wait staff are kids with little to no training, just there taking order and if you ask them any question about these dishes they have no knowledge of Chinese cuisine. I had to get the manager to get what I needed right. again let me emphasize high western cost without service nor food to justify. on top of the high menu prices, worse is then they charge an additional 7% VAT and then another 10% service charge on top of everything, which makes this meal outrageously expensive, and an absolute rip off in every sense of the word and definition. I can have the same dish in California cheaper that should tell you something. I would just skip this place, save your money find...
Read moreFish & pickled veggie soup (ปลาต้มผักดอง) - The taste is light for this kind of soup. The taste is on the sour side, it’s very fragrant, and it’s rather spicy. The fish is fresh and bouncy, not fishy at all. There’s no way you can finish drinking the soup since it’s pretty intense. There’s not much pickled veggies here, I recommend you to add glass noodles or some extra toppings! I ended up packing the soup home and turn it into noodle soup.
Fried chili chicken ไก่ผัดพริกตะไคร้ - it’s too greasy, and it’s very spicy. I like to order Sichuan dried chili chicken (gongjiding something), and they use make it slightly crispy and dry. I’m not a fan of this one
Plain white rice - SOOOO GOOD! It’s the best rice I ever had! They put the rice cooker outside for people to see, and I noticed that it’s the famous expensive Japanese brand Zoijishiru. I even ask the waitress what rice they used, they just said maybe it’s jasmine rice? I’m not sure if it’s because of the rice or rice cooker, but you should try the rice!
There were queues, but i only waited for 15min during dinner time. The menu is pretty small as a Chinese restaurant. I might visit again to try...
Read moreSuan cai yu, or Sichuan fish with pickled mustard greens originates from Sichuan, China. Been to China many times myself, I really appreciate Chinese foods and their popularity overseas. When Tai Er opened a branch in Bangkok, it has always been my wish to try it. And this time I finally found the time and opportunity to try it.
We went on a Saturday mid afternoon and thankfully, we did not wait that long.
We ordered: Suan cai fish (the smallest size available) Deep fried spicy chicken with lemongrass Stir fried green bean with minced pork Stir fried pork with green chili.
Suan cai fish was good, but not that great. But I still love it though just that I have tried better fish elsewhere.
Deep fried spicy chicken with lemongrass was cooked very well. I like the intensity of the spice.
Stir fried green bean with minced pork taste wasn't up to my level of satisfaction. I find that its a bit bland.
Stir fried pork with green chili was a pleasant surprise. The flavor profile really stands out and this will be the dish I will order everytime I come here.
Overall, I really like the restaurant and the staff's service was...
