Beware of Hidden Charges - Disappointed
Let me say first that this place really is extraordinary, the view is beyond words and the service is excellent.
Also, I knew going in that this was an expensive treat, which I was totally prepared for — it was the EXTRA $150 USD that was added to my bill that I have a problem with.
There are several tasting menus, we picked the second most expensive with wine pairing — which was already $300 per person. Quite a bit for the quality of the food and wine — which were not bad but hardly awesome. But again, that’s not what this place is about. And the prices were clearly conveyed on the menu — and we agreed to pay them.
HOWEVER, upon first arriving, we were ushered to special receiving room — the Pink Bar — and offered a glass of champagne from about six choices.
I knew a couple on the ones on offer and they were solidly middle of the road price-wise. So much so that I actually though this might be complementary — and also, there were no prices offered or suggested.
I choose the Dosnon & Lapage Rosé Brut basically because I knew the label and knew the price to be about $40 USD per BOTTLE at retail.
So, imagine my surprise upon receiving the bill at the end of the evening to find that I had been charged $70 PER GLASS for this rotgut.
First, if I’d been given the bill at the Pink Bar (or told the actual cost), I would have left right then. To be gouged for this amount ON TOP of the $600 I already agreed to pay demonstrates their business model: gouge your customers, assume that none will ever return, make no attempt to create loyalty or repeat business.
The latter is unfortunate, as I actually visit Bangkok regularly and frequently arrange business dinners where, shall we say, price is not the main factor.
The restaurant is also part of a hotel, Lebua. I not only stay at luxury hotels when in Bangkok but recommend/approve them for friends and employees. It would be difficult to recommend a hotel that, evidently, condones such...
Read moreview 9/10 service 6/10 food 2/10 other than the view I'd say that I'm very disappointed by this place. it is very expensive, which is expected, but there are plenty of rooms to improve on the service, and sadly, they might be better of just scrapping the whole menu, including the amuse bouche and the sauces. the service looks very promising when you just stepped out of the elevator, but once you sit the table, it is rather difficult to grab hold of anyone's attention. We ordered bread with their plain pumpkin soup and it took somewhere around 25mins for the bread to arrive. The amuse here are possibly the worst tasting amuse I've ever had in fine dining. the sauces they provide tasted something along normal to tasteless, and so was their food. we were a party of 6 so we ordered many dishes along with the "chef's tasting menu". there were absolutely no element of surprise (the good ones at least). the soft shell crab appetizer have no taste and it must be a sin to ruin something like "Wagyu Short Ribs" with weird tasting sauce and what tasted like they have been cooking it for so long that the wagyu fat have been melted away, the only good thing on that dish was the mushroom that tasted buttery and smooth. The duck pieces in the duck dish tastes nothing like duck and have a rubbery texture that they might aswell use tofu, I also only got the taste of the weird sauce they use so much of in the dish. on the other hand, the seafood dishes do not have enough sauce or rather, they were not marinated nearly long enough. Thai's Japanese chain restaurant can cook better snow fish than these guys. Anyways, what I'm saying is that maybe the chef should really revise this whole menu because its a waste of their good and expensive...
Read moreLet me start with the positives: the service is exceptional, as you’d expect from a high-end restaurant in Thailand. The staff were kind, attentive, and professional—easily a 10/10. The view is also stunning, with a unique vantage of Bangkok that’s hard to beat (10/10).
Now, the food at Breeze was good—I’d give it an 8/10—but not mind-blowing. Especially when you consider the eye-watering prices, which clearly ride on the coattails of the whole Hangover fame more than culinary merit. I’ve had better meals at half the price elsewhere in Bangkok, including the Chinese restaurant at The Standard, which was more flavorful and far more reasonably priced.
Structurally, the place needs help. The building is in dire need of maintenance. Just look at the state of the stairs—exposed cables, loose wood, and peeling surfaces (see photos). At this price point, I expect more than a pretty view—I expect basic upkeep. When you’re charging over $100 for a single rooftop cocktail, you could at least afford some paint and secure lighting. It’s not just tacky—it’s unsafe and unacceptable for the premium you’re paying.
Bottom line: Breeze is not Michelin-starred (that’s other Lebua venues), and honestly, it doesn’t live up to the hype. If you’re considering a fine dining rooftop experience in Bangkok, skip this and go to The Standard instead. Better food, better drinks, and a better overall vibe—without the sticker shock or the crumbling steps.
I won’t be returning to Breeze—or any of the...
