Mazzaro Boutique and Restaurant — Restaurant in Bang Rak Subdistrict

My first and last visit

I visit Bangkok so often but I won't come back to this place and doubt to recommend to my friends.

I ordered 2 main courses(both Thai dishes) and smoothie and I was going to take away my leftover for dinner but as the amount of food is so little, so I finished all on the spot. I usually can't finish the whole main course so if u are a guy, u won't be full with one main dish ever.

A few minutes after my order, the waitress offered me some water. As I already ordered my smoothie, I thought she would give me tap water or some free water like other restaurants do. I saw her bringing a small bottle of water with a lid open Then she told me it's 45 baht which is 9 times the price of water that I had in my bag.

I am not sure this is the owner's idea or whatsoever, This is just stealing money from customers. If customers have to pay, they must inform customers beforehand. Actually, the waitresses are friendly but this will make them deal with complaints unnecessarily.

I saw another table in front of me with 3 Japanese tourists saying they ordered 1 pint but the waitress brought 2 and just made them pay telling them she cant' bring back the draft beer. So I guess they do this to customers seem not to make a fuss about it. But they can lose reputation by this.

The service and the atmosphere was alright. But the way the servers make customers pay more than they are supposed to was such an unpleasant exprience makes me never want to come back.

When I paid my bill, I realized they add 10% service charge. Total bill was 780batt ($23)for lunch in Bangkok.

I personally prefer somewhere with more reasonable price and no tricks. I'd rather save some money for a massage and local dessert after.

이미 스무디 주문한 저에게 종업원이 물 준다고 하더니 결국 제가 물값 45바트 더 계산하게 되었어요 편의점에서 5바트주면 물 살수 있구요 마지막에 서비스차지도 10프로 붙입니다. 물론 메뉴나 종업원이 이 부분은 언 급하지 않습니다.

앞테이블 일본 손님들도 맥주 하나 시켰는데 종업원이 두개 가져와서 취소못한다 생맥주라 다시 못넣는다 하니 그냥 그 사람들이 난감해 하면서 알겠다 하더라구요 이런식으로 손님 돈 더 내게 하는거 너무 싫어요

방콕에서 점심값으로 2만7천원 냈는데 그정도로 파인다이닝은 아니예요

On our last night in Bangkok after a month travelling Thailand we decided to stay at the Lebua State Tower and treat ourselves to a lavish meal at Sirocco on the rooftop.... that was until we saw the prices! Absolutely ridiculous! As soon as we said we only wanted a starter to share they treat us like peasants, asked us to leave our front table with a view and made to feel like inferior. We quickly decided to leave and find somewhere else with quality food, ambience and friendly staff... which lead us to Mazzaro. And wow. Excellent staff who were welcoming and couldn't do enough for us, the food was absolutely delicious (we had 2 starters, 2 mains and a dessert to share) all of which were cooked/baked to perfection. The cocktails were fantastic too! Awesome atmosphere and a good feel buzz. We couldn't believe it when we got the bill, under 3000 baht for all the food and all the cocktails! (3000 baht would have got us a single starter at sirocco and probably not to Mazzaro's standard of quality!) Highly recommend this hidden little gem. You won't regret going here for a...

The underwhelming service level at Mazzaro is what brought the star score of this down. Unfortunately the service was the slowest we had received in all of BKK during our trip. Our first drink order took around 40 mins, after the (lukewarm) appetisers appeared at the 30 min mark. The staff weren’t exactly friendly either (they all seemed pretty unhappy), particularly when you compare it to the great service culture in the rest of Bangkok.

The venue itself is lovely, the food was well presented but again, just very underwhelming in terms of flavour, quality and portion. Bangkok is an incredible foodie city and Mazzaro needs to do better. The cold silence of the restaurant (no music or kitchen bustle) also felt a little bleak.

After begrudgingly paying the 10% “service” charge, we had to go and find somewhere else to cheer...
