A special night of excellent food and all-world service My dinner at Riva Del Fiume at Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River (long name) was beyond expectations in so many good ways. We got in early at about 18.00 hrs. and the tables were mostly empty. I kind of thought it was going to be a slow night for the restaurant but then customers started to flow in consistently and the place filled up quickly. I had had lunch here before when it was all business and not much time to savor the surroundings. Last night I got to appreciate a different ambience of families, couples and a generally more relaxed atmosphere of both staff and patrons. The restaurant itself is tastefully lighted and colorful in an organized manner. I liked the display of vermouth and liqueur bottles. The set menu I had was superb. The appetizer of slow-cooked veal tenderloin was extraordinary with thin ham-liked meat that astonished me as to how you could make veal like that. The plating of each dish was pure art without overdoing it, with each vegetable having a role in both the flavor composition as well as the visual of the food. This was true of the organic garden vegetables with red basil seed dressing and it was a dish that was very special and one that I savored the most. The oyster blade steak was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth. Again, everything was assembled nicely with a restrained but confident hand of letting the beef be the centerpiece. The chili pasta was al dente supreme with an unexpected but likable heat factor. The 2 desserts were a true delight. One was creamy strawberry sorbet that was pure heavenly overdose of fresh fruit while the outside-menu special Easter Day pastry was awesome. What really made the evening very memorable was the great service, hospitality, warmth, and positive energy of Ice, our ever-smiling and super knowledgeable staff who attended to our table for the night. He really knew how to chat with customers, giving us information on the dishes and why we should enjoy them. He was also going around doing the same thing with other tables. This was, to me, remarkable on a busy evening for the restaurant. Overall, it was a long-awaited dinner for a couple who don’t go out that much that was as enjoyable as any...
Read moreOne of the best pizzas in Bangkok, maybe even the best! :). We often used the in-room dining and ate on site once. All great. The location seems high-quality and very well thought out. The manager is a very friendly and helpful guy. The waiters made a lot of effort, their English skills were relatively ok, but not at a level where the dishes were explained in detail, which is what you would expect in this price category. All the dishes were delicious and of European standard. Especially the mashed potatoes, the truffles, desserts and the pizza of course :)
A few suggestions for improvement: The dishes should always come in the same plates, sometimes you get a very high-quality heavy container, and sometimes you get a cheap ceramic bowl, and that with the same dish. Unfortunately, when we arrived there was no one at the reception and we had to wait very briefly until someone came, which actually wasn't a problem at all. However, an upscale restaurant should have someone at the reception at all times, it's not that difficult. We ordered burrata with almost every order and it was mostly good, but twice the burrata was very hard, which is because it was too old. Please pay attention to this during quality control and remove it from the repertoire sooner. Please offer at least one type of pizza for the in-room dining service, it's so delicious!! :) Minus point for dog owners, their dog is not allowed in every outdoor area, I honestly can't understand that. Why am I not allowed to sit in ALL outdoor places with my dog? Even if it's not a must-have in an Italian restaurant, I would really like to be greeted with a warm towel like an Oshibori.
Price-performance ratio is relatively fair. I don't understand why there are people here who give the restaurant a bad review with a photo of the bill and complain about the price and say that it's much too expensive... I wonder how that's possible? You see the price on the menu and decide to order it, and then later wonder about the bill? Hahah unbelievable.
Overall, great, everyone who is in the area should definitely try it. Whether you order room service or eat on site, you won't be disappointed just...
Read moreMy son and I we went to Riva del Fiume Italian restaurant at the Four Seasons Bangkok, for the Christmas lunch buffet. We were surprised in how all Italians team organized and delivered a wonderful dining experience.
Executive Chef Andrea Accordi with his team, Francesco Aquaviva, Andrea Bonaffini and etc has absolutely provide not only an unforgettable Christmas lunch, but a wonderful trip of the traditional Italians cuisine.
From the cold cuts, cheese and all best Italian apertize to the best traditional Christmas recipes as pasta al forno, polpette di ricotta e spinaci, cotechino con lenticchie ( is tradition to eat this special during new year as it’s good wish to get a lot of money ).
And many others all prepared to perfections. The testing and qualities of the ingredients used for the preparations of each regional menu were the original one, every bite I can close my eyes and transport myself in Italy.
The concept of a live station with preparation of some Italian special food was amazing, from the burrata mozzarella, bufala mozzarella and more prepared by a chef and served with final touch of extra virgin oil olive. A superlative owen that cooked your Pizza to perfection, or a delicious carpaccio with black truffle!
Also the Panettone with zabaione cream was available aside many other sweets treats from Italy tradition. In addition the great service orchestrated by F&B manager Michele Aduino, provide to your table specials as risotto, sea food pasta and tomatoes and many others.
What as dessert make me surprised to find and take me back to my child time, was the chiacchera a very traditional dessert of pasta frolla with honey that is done only during Christmas time. Super !!!
Last but not least all service staff was impeccable, and the dining experience with champagne absolutely matching the all available menus.
Very well done and thanks to all!!!!
