Costly but exceptionally wide array of options. Worth it. Great for friend group hanging out.
Very, very wide array of options: from fresh meat to crabs to oysters. The focus is on meat & seafood, which it delivers. There's even Sashimi, Sushi, Pizza, Pasta, and many Thai food options. I love having options and trying out a little of everything, and this is just like a paradise. There are everything you can imagine. The Sashimi was amazing. The chef sliced it right there for me. There are also Som Tum station. And I love the Mango Sticky Rice.
There are also stations where they cook a rotating menu, fresh for you. The day we went have Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup.
The drink selection is good. It's juice and sodas, but have more options than usual buffets. Don't get the steamer, though. It's a scam. It's sooooo slow and barely hot enough. You can barely cook anything with it. Avoid the steamer at all costs. We ended up using the steamer as a boiling pot, just putting the shrimps & crabs in the steamer's water itself.
There are live crabs & shrimps in the tank lining the entire restaurant, and you're allowed to grab and cook them. You can knock them out first with a bucket of ice water, provided at it's station. Most of them (live ones) are relatively small, though. The real, big ones are in the ice trays in the normal buffet area, and those ones are not fresh. We're very disappointed on this front. It felt like live crabs & shrimps are sadly just a gimmick for people to film & share to social media, distractinh & forging a perception that everything in the restaurant are fresh.
The view is incredible. Open view of the Chao Praya river with boats passing by. There are no tables that are right on the river side itself but that also means everyone can walk and get a great view.
They seem to be pretty serious about leftovers. Before you can leave, you must get a stamp on your receipt from a staff who will check your table for any leftovers. And you get countless reminders about the leftover surcharge, including Orwellian announcements as you eat. I understand it but it kinda ruins the mood a bit, felt like we're working in a factory with a boss who's constantly reminding us to eat everything haha
The restroom is clean and large enough to accommodate many people, though we went there during off-peak time (weekday afternoon) since this restaurant is very viral and the queue gets extremely long on weekends & evening (especially long on weekend evening).
Parking is not the best. The restaurant is located in an alley that has many seafood market buildings. Its parking is not really street parking but also not really proper parking lot. You'll navigate a simple alley network, and there are staff to guide you. They said it gets really bad on weekends and evenings.
The restaurant is separated into sections: Indoor buffet area, where it's just food & restrooms. Outdoor fresh menu stations with live chef. Seating area is all outdoors. There are a retractable canvas roof hanging tall which will be covered only in case it rains (it won't cover you in sunny days), but I'm not sure it'll adequately protect us from rain. So beware of that. There are only large tables, so while you can go alone and get the quadruple table all for yourself, this is really the best for hanging out with friends.
There is a normal seating area with no time limit, and "Express" seats with time limit. It has the same price, but the queue gets very bad during peak hours, especially on weekend evenings, which will push people to the "Express" seats. Though, really, unless you're an eating champion, you'll be painfully full within 2-3 hours, and all that meat won't be quick to digest either. So people taking advantage of that unlimited time will be "long time no see" friends hanging out and chatting over a beer (cost extras).
Accepts digital mobile payments including Chinese ones which is great & modern. They have a table of price calculated based on number of people in your group which saved us from the headache of...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Kodtalay Seafood Buffet, located right by the Chao Phraya River, and it was an experience worth sharing.
The riverside setting is stunning, providing a peaceful backdrop as you dig into a serious seafood feast.
The atmosphere is lively, with both outdoor and indoor seating. If you’re concerned about the weather,
I’d suggest asking for a table under shelter since some of the outdoor seating is open-air.
One of the coolest things about Kodtalay is the live seafood tanks. You can actually catch your own crabs and prawns from the tanks, which they’ll cook up fresh for you.
It’s a fun, hands-on way to enjoy your meal and adds something special to the dining experience.
The buffet is a steal at 599 Baht, with an additional 40 Baht for unlimited drinks. The selection is huge, from fresh seafood to cooked dishes, sushi, and desserts.
The seafood is fresh and tasty—though it’s more about variety than luxury. Still, for the price, it’s hard to beat.
Kodtalay has built a strong reputation over the years for offering great value and a unique dining experience.
From what I gathered from the ground staff, this restaurant was originally founded with the goal of making seafood accessible to everyone without skimping on quality.
The Chao Phraya River location really adds to the experience, combining good food with beautiful views.
If you’re planning a visit, I’d recommend coming on a weekday. The weekends can get crazy busy, as locals love to flock here, and tourists have caught on too.
The view of the river, paired with the great value and interactive dining, makes this spot a winner for seafood lovers.
Overall, Kodtalay Seafood Buffet by the Chao Phraya River offers great value, a wide selection, and a fun, interactive dining experience in a gorgeous setting.
Definitely come hungry as there’s a lot of food...
Read moreTbh live seafood, all you can eat on top of that, would be hard to get it wrong unless the place is full of flies and the utensils are questionable.
If you wanted to experience live seafood, I don't think there is any place more alive than this. You can scoop your own prawn/crab and grill them alive. Their seafoods are fresh, but the amount of flies around the other cooked food, leaving their babies potentially, is really making me think twice about taking something that cooked before. But when the fresh batch comes in, you should try everything on their menu. Pizzas are surprisingly good for a seafood place.
The amount of selections for seafood, cooked foods, drinks, fruits, desserts, appetizers are simply biblical. So many to choose from, even they got pork belly, kimchi and korean related meals inside.
For me personally, this place is about experience. You can enjoy a leisure evening bbq-ing seafoods in front of their friends, stunning river view, truly capturing the vibes of thailand. But there are one-two things to note here: There are two kind of seating here; inside and outside. Bot of them are technically outside, but the "outside seating", which besides the aquarium will only allow you for 3 hours of meal. If you sat at the table with no aquarium, you can eat as long as you like(no time limit). You still can scoop the live seafood tho, so don't worry.
Beers are not included, they will charge you for amount of one big bottle. And just a heads up, take your food wisely, they will charge you if you left many leftover food around. Details are on the site, so just remember, 3 hours of seafood, pork and many dishes are more than enough for a human being to eat. I myself gorging on those damned...
