River Barge Restaurant serves dinner buffet from 6pm-10.30pm while a la cart menu is also available at the same time for outdoor seating along the river.
Our disappointment staring from reception service. There are 3 staff who are 2 servers and 1 manager by the door at the time we arrived but they still talking about their personal businesses rather than greeting us.
We booked for four people to celebrate birthday party but they set a corner table next to a pole. We had to ask them for a better position along the river view.
Food is variety but is so so for the quality and taste. Especially, Sechuan soup is horrible since the taste is different from it should be. Grilled skin crispy pork is too dry and hard to chew. They serves only water, coffee and tea in the buffet.
Even most servers and chefs are nice and attentive but the service is still slow and there is a stop period before the food is refilled.
When we asked the restaurant manager to prepare a small piece of cake for our birthday girl with a candle the manager told us to buy a cake from their bakery shop. We told her this is unimpressive service. Later, while we are picking some cake from the buffet to decorate on a plate for our birthday girl the same manager approaching us with a fake smile. She said she would ask a chef to write birthday sentence on the plate.
When we asked for bill we have to wait for 15-20 minutes. Then I followed up with a servers but that lady passed the bill book to me as is she wants me to take it to my table myself. I have to look at her face for a minute to let her realized what her duty is.
Around 20.30 we saw a firework demonstration and before leaving around 21.30 we saw the second firework show as the...
Read moreWent for a glass of wine and ordered off the a la carte menu. Service was okay; understandably it was a Saturday evening so the kitchen was swamped and the overall layout of the dining area made it difficult for the staff to be attentive. (Having waited 15 minutes before even given menus- despite several asks.)
We tried a seafood pasta dish (which was quickly sent back as the clams were not fresh and tasted defrosted/out of date), followed by a thai noodle dish (which was almost immediately sent back as well for it was too spicy) and finally a supposed 'thai' dish of roast duck breast in what tasted like an imitation hoisin sauce. The meat had too much skin (super rubbery!) in the most ungenerous portion. Moreover the side of steamed vegetables were overcooked- and by this point we felt too horrible to make even more of a fuss after two dishes.
We have tried loads of restaurants in the vicinity and overall value-wise; there are much more authentic and delicious options at a fraction of the price a stone's throw away. To top it off, you'd be trying foods from family run businesses who take real care and pride in their food.
There's a crispy pork michelin star small restaurant straight along the road (away from the river) and a fish speciality, family run restaurant across the road. Both delivering quality, memorably...
Read moreThis place is within the Chatrium Hotel by the river. Beautifully decorated and with live music. Perfect for a nice romantic meal sitting by the river. The restaurant offers a la carte menu and buffet. I would go for the buffet. Like most of the buffets in South East Asia, they offer a small selection of food from all over the world, Thai, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, steak and grill and a seafood section. Food is above par!
Initially the service was poor as we were sitting at the corner and the lack of attention from the waiting staff prompted me to make a complaint (I rarely make a complaint), the manager Mr Porksak really took it on board and thanked me for my feedback. You can tell he is genuinely sorry for the poor or rather lack of service and he took it upon himself to serve us for the rest of the evening. Things can go wrong and it’s silly to expect everything is perfect all the time, but what counts is their effort to make things right! For that I could not fault Mr Porksak for even a little bit. The evening was enjoyable for me and my guest and I have a lot to thank Mr Porksak for.
