During my recent trip to Istanbul, I decided to visit the Super Mario Restaurant, which is well-known for its fish shawarma, or balık dürüm. Located on the picturesque Golden Rhone embankment, this eatery is surrounded by fishermen's shops and boasts a stunning view of the bay. With tables available outside and a cozy, glazed terrace on the second floor, you can truly take in the gorgeous scenery while enjoying your meal.
While I didn't find the fish shawarma to be incredibly delicious, it was still a pleasant dish. The slightly sour taste and tender grilled fillet were definitely interesting, but perhaps not to everyone's taste. However, the Ayran (a traditional Turkish yogurt drink) paired very well with the shawarma, balancing the flavors and creating a refreshing combination.
The service at Super Mario Restaurant was attentive, and the ambiance was relaxed and enjoyable. Despite my personal feelings about the fish shawarma, I would still recommend this legendary restaurant to anyone in the area. The picturesque location alone is worth a visit, and there's a chance you might find their signature dish more to your liking than I did. Overall, Super Mario Restaurant offers a satisfying experience for...
Read moreWe stopped by after reading amazing reviews online about this place. Staff was nice and we ordered some drinks and balik ekmeks. They brought our drinks within seconds. The evening was amazing and the time was flying. Some time after we started questioning about our food. We realized that more then 40 minutes passed. Once again we asked about our balik ekmeks and got a response that it will take 5 minutes max. I timed them and exactly in 5 minutes we asked for a check. Surprisingly, 2 minutes later the food appeared from the restaurant located next door and it was twice as much as we ordered. I refused the food and asked for a cheque again. The manager came to our table apologizing and giving us a check. We paid for drinks and left to the place a couple doors down where we got our food in less then 10 minutes. I honestly do not recommend Mario Emin Usta to anyone because they don't care about you or your time. Drinks were fine but extremely...

I ordered the famous Balık ekmek, and was super excited. It took about 30-45mins to cook 4 of the sandwiches. We paid 45 tl each, 180 tl total.
Upon first eating, it was really good! But the more of the sandwich you ate, the more fish bones you ate too! I was really disappointed and tried to eat around the bones by spitting them out but there was sooo many fish bones. Both my sandwiches had excess bones and so did my husband's. In my second sandwich I just took out most of the fish, and ate the bread/fillings to not waste too much food. The bread was fantastic, crispy, and seasoned with nice fillings, but the bones really ruined the whole thing.
I would visit again, but not get anything with fish. Hopefully if you try the Balık ekmek, they learn how to remove the bones by then. I think this sandwich has massive potential, and maybe it was a...
