If you're looking for an exceptional dining experience in Istanbul, then look no further than Fulane restaurant! Tucked away on a side street, this hidden gem may be hard to find, but it is definitely worth seeking out.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the charming host, Poyraz, who gave us a warm welcome and invited us to try out this amazing restaurant. The menu was detailed in English, which was a great relief for us as we are not familiar with Turkish language.
As we perused the menu, we were amazed by the variety of Turkish dishes on offer. The mezzas were the perfect start to our meal, and we enjoyed every bite. The mixed grill was outstanding, featuring different meats cooked to perfection. The bread was also a standout, freshly baked and perfect for dipping into the delicious dips.
The ambiance of the restaurant was also top-notch. It was cozy, warm, and inviting. We loved the traditional decor and the overall atmosphere of the place.
One of the highlights of our experience was watching the chefs prepare some of the dishes in clay pots. They put on a show for us, which was not only entertaining but also perfect for social media posts.
Overall, I would rate Fulane restaurant a perfect 10 out of 10. The food was exceptional, the service was impeccable, and the ambiance was charming. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Istanbul, and be sure to seek out Poyraz, the host, who will make your visit even more special. Don't miss out on this incredible...
Read moreWe came because of the great reviews, but were a bit disappointed. My wife asked for a steak and asked for it rare. The waiter repeated back 'medium'. My wife then said 3 more times that she wanted it rare. Each time, the waiter said 'medium'. Even I corrected him and said 'rare'. So when the steak came out medium-well (with a good bit of charcoal) it was a bit bemusing. We told the waiter, who seemed surprised that we asked for 'rare'.
I have two theories. The waiter spoke good English and was clearly intelligent. So I'm quite sure he understood us when we said 'rare'. Perhaps the cooks in the kitchen aren't very good and can only cook steaks medium or medium-well. Perhaps the meat isn't very good quality and needed to be cooked medium-rare.
My guess would be 2.
As for the rest of the food, it was OK. Not great, but not bad. It could use more seasoning. The waiter did offer to cook another steak for us, but we weren't hungry enough for more food. Honestly, the best thing they could have done is take 200 lira off the bill. But they didn't.
It's a shame, since other customers clearly had...
Read moreIt was lucky for them we had already chosen to eat there before they saw us. I have a very strict rule and I will not eat anywhere the people harass me on the sidewalk to try to get my business. It's been very difficult in Istanbul, but possible. I've traveled in 48 countries and there's little I hate more than taxi drivers harassing me at the airport/bus station/train station or restaurant workers harassing me on the sidewalk.
The food was okay. About the same as all the other restaurants we've eaten at in town but slightly more expensive. I can highly recommend the soup they claim is a 500 year old Mesopotamian recipe. It was delicious. As a history teacher I have to argue with that claim. The soup has a tomato base and there were no tomatoes in Mesopotamia 500 years ago, but the soup was delicious. I could see myself having a bowl for lunch often.
The servers are pleasant on the eyes and friendly. They weren't too pushy. I usually check out the restroom every time I make a review because it's important but I forgot this time. Yesterday was a busy day and I was exhausted.
The cold draft...
