Both meat dishes that I tried (Adana Kebab and Tavuk Sis) were very good and tasty. The portion size was acceptable, but not overly big (I would say a good "woman's portion", but people with bigger appetite might have to get 1.5 or 2 servings to be full). Prices were better than almost all places in the area, so given the good food quality, I would say they were reasonable.
However, there was almost nothing else that you can get there except the different meat dishes - the common side dishes that you can get in most kebab places throughout Turkey were unfortunately not available (like acili ezme, patlican salatasi, etc.). That was a pity, because the kebab alone (with rice) can be a bit too bland for some, but together with starters/mezze it would have been even better in taste and the perfect serving size.
Also note that no complimentary extras were given, unlike many Turkish restaurants - not even a free tea after the meal, as is a very common gesture of hospitality throughout Turkey.
So those who want to eat a good quality kebab with good taste and absolutely nothing else, can do so at a reasonable price here. For others who want to have more variety in food offerings, a choice of starters or experience some more Turkish hospitality are probably better...
Read moreRead some good reviews and chose this restaurant. Went through the side streets passing all the restaurant vendors beckoning and calling us but we followed the map and arrived to the humble Ziya Baba restaurant, we were greeted warmly by the host and chose to sit inside where it was quieter. I liked that there was no music blasting, I don’t mind quiet Turkish music instrumental in the background but it was peaceful inside with no music. We ordered the soup, the tavuk shish and salad, every single thing was delicious, we cleared our plates. The bread they serve with the soup was the best we’ve had in Istanbul - not the typical French bread type but proper bread, reminds me of Afghan nan. The chicken was succulent and juicy, I would definitely recommend and the salad was fresh and the dressing I drank like soup at the end. Very reasonably priced and not overloaded menu, which assures you that they’ve perfected what’s on offer. Kind, humble service not fake and flashy like you can often get in touristy restaurants when they’re trying to charm you in and the food ends up being below average. This was an all round perfect experience, I will absolutely be visiting again. Thank...
Read moreWe did some home work ,read the reviews and decided to give them a try. However we were disappointed as there are other restaurants with far superior quality and similar prices. Adana kebab was too dry, and their grilled meatballs felt like it was one that they cut in half to compare with sizes of all other restaurants that we have tried so far. There is no information in the menu to give you the details of what you are ordering and whatever is available online is out of date I guess, even though it has been provided by the business. In our case we had mixed kebab and all we had was some chopped tomato, lettuce and onion. One skewer of Adana kebab, one chicken and two tiny meatballs to compare with Adana kebab, chicken skewers, meatballs, wings and roasted red pepper and tomato's. Lastly do not trust any of the prices that you see as even the most basic items such as their soup has gone up by 25% during the last few months. I won't recommend them and certainly won't be...
