Omurca Art Cave — Restaurant in Göreme

So I have mixed feelings about this place. I came here after seeing it online and was pleasantly surprised by the interior. You can see the owners’ passion seeping through all of the decor. I wanted to ask them about the various art pieces and books they had displayed, but alas I had to look them cook.

In any case, I had ordered a grilled chicken and grilled lamb along with chips. I saw one review that said this was the best grilled chicken they’d tasted so I was looking forward to it. As I had ordered for takeaway, I couldn’t check the food, let alone taste it.

Once I got the food I had to rush back to my hotel as my kids were hungry. When we opened the containers my wife and I were surprised by the very charred lamb which sadly tasted no better. It was extremely chewy which makes me think it was overcooked.

The chicken itself was not overcooked but it was very fatty, which is surprising given the price isn’t cheap and the high reviews of this place.

Lastly, the chips were oily. I know they’re fried but it seems like they weren’t drained completely and instead thrown straight into the container.

Overall, very disappointing. If it was just me I would have come back to the restaurant and complained about it. But with hungry kids I had to suck it up, eat the overcooked and charred lamb and fatty chicken myself, whilst filling the kids up on bulgur and chips (after drying).

Maybe something went wrong and normally the meat is of high quality and cooked correctly. I’m just a bit surprised given the reviews so maybe this is a one off.

Anyways, if you are doing a takeaway then it’s at least worth checking your food before leaving the restaurant. Lesson...

Popped in here for dinner tonight and my only regret was not visiting sooner. By far the chilliest vibe in Goreme - I think one of the other reviews called it Bohemian vibe...absolutely spot on. The food was freshly made and tastes fantastic. Appears to be family run and you can feel the love. Also the cats are possibly the best behaved ever, friendly but not jumping on your table trying to steal food!

I wish I could give 6 stars as once I finished my meal and went to pay, the lady at the till mentioned it's cash only (and I left my phone at my hotel earlier so was going to use contactless on my phone). She said "don't worry, you can pay later, I trust you" - which left me so shocked. I don't think anyone has ever put that kind of trust in a random foreign customer, but she did and I came back 20mins later with much much more than was asked. Seriously, if you have the chance, stop...

Very disappointed and thoroughly confused what the hype is about. After reading All the reviews, my husband and I trudged through the rain to try to find this restaurant. Too bad it was raining, so we could not sit outside. I’m not a cat person, so to be surrounded by eight cats while trying to eat, did not make me feel very comfortable. The owner was very helpful and nice, but it took him over 40 minutes to prepare our food and we were the only customers. After the long wait, you’d think the food would be amazing, but it was alright, nothing special. The dish that was red, was way to sour and salty. It didn’t come with rice or anything so it was too salty to eat. We picked the first 2 items on the menu. The decor was interesting and outside looked comfy, but again, not sure why this restaurant is so...
