Although it’s my first time in T&C, I travel internationally quite a lot. Yesterday my group happened upon this cute little spot for lunch. The beers were nice and cold, and when I inquired about bottled water, our server was insightful enough to warn us that it was $9 for a regular sized bottle. We greatly appreciated that, and passed.
All except one of the dishes we ordered were tasty and portioned as expected. Unfortunately, the one that wasn’t was bad enough that we will not return. It was the lobster nachos. They were a disaster on all fronts.
Firstly, they were listed as an appetizer on the menu, and I explained to our server that I would like them before the rest of our meal. She nodded in understanding. When quite a lot of time had passed, I inquired about them and she explained that they would be coming with the rest of our food. I was frustrated, but didn’t object. I wish I had.
The nachos were actually the last dish to come out. There were 12-15 tortilla chips on the plate with a very small amount of melted (and congealed) cheese that was predominantly on two of the chips. They had about a tablespoon of diced red and green bell peppers scattered around and about 8-10 small pieces of grilled lobster that was cold and overcooked. They were not good … at all. Imagine my surprise when we got the bill and the charge for the nachos was FORTY DOLLARS! Yep … $40 ! The menu said $23.
Now, I will say that possibly, the $23 was for the addition of lobster, and there was a base price, but each of my group had looked at the menu and did not see a base price anywhere. Even if that was the case, this dish and price were both unbelievably tragic.
I went up to pay and asked our server about the charge. She said it was correct. I paid my bill and left, but have been stewing about it since. It was - by far - the single most offensive price I’ve ever paid for anything....
Read moreWent to lunch with a family of 4. My husband ordered jerk chicken which was good but only 2 small pieces of chicken were included..the meal was mostly fries with the chicken and maybe 2 bites of coleslaw as a side. One of the kids had a cobb salad (hard to mess up so she liked hers) and one had mac and cheese plain (no chicken or shrimp) and that was delicious. I had a cheese pizza and it was absolutely the worst pizza I ever had in my entire life. So thin, doughy and chewy..dough was sticky so it wasn't even baked through. So much cheese on top it was sliding off the sauce so coupled with the doughy bottom, it was a big bunch of mush basically. I tried to eat but honestly ate one tiny slice and just could not take another bite. My husband tried to eat it and just shook his head no. I asked for still water since I didnt want to spend a lot of $ on drinks, and got 2 small Fiji waters for $14! For $130 lunch, definitely...
Read moreIt’s an ok place. Food was also decent. Very slow, island time service but it is what it is.
My issue is being overcharged. The menu said daiquiris and coladas were something like $9-$15. Ordered two virgin daiquiris. When I get the bill they are $15 each. I pointed it out to the server and asked to check since that was the highest end and they had no alchohol. She looked very unsure and went and “checked.” When she came back, she said it was right and that a daiquiri with rum would have been $19.50 which is higher than any price on the menu. I’m thinking it should have been $15 minus $4.50 for a shot so something like $11.50. Overcharged probably $10 for drinks….not with a fight but I can always just leave a review letting people know.
Would go...
