I'm never impressed when I go to Ocean Club West. Everything - food, music, and the attentiveness of the staff - is mediocre at best.
There's no sign at Solana saying to wait to be seated and there's no host to seat you, but if you grab an empty table and wait for any of the waitstaff to acknowledge your presence, you'll be disappointed.
It took us close to 20 mins of sitting and failing to catch the eye of the staff members attending to the tables next to us before we decided to leave, and only as we were walking past the bar did we encounter Doc. Doc is the one person who spoke to us, finally got us some food, and was a generally great dude to find during an otherwise 'meh' dinner outing.
We always have a negative experience at Solana. I'm rating it 3 stars because I'm sure it's fine. The food is edible, the decor is nice, the view is pretty.
I'm simply used to the 5 star treatment that we get at Ocean Club East (or as I like to call it, OG OC). At the Cabana Bar, it doesn't matter if you seat yourself because wait staff will see that you don't have a menu or glasses and they'll come attend to you, because they are kind, customer focused, and have functioning eyes and brains. I can't confidently say the...
Read moreFood was bland and not seasoned. Grouper was a little over cooked. The sweet potato mash had no flavor and the texture was off. The ribs were dry and the mashed potatoes also bland. No one was at restaurant and a wedding reception gojng on, which was fine, but they asked if we were with the resort as if they didn’t want to serve us. If you get “still” water rather than tap it’s $4 a bottle. Cosmo I had was bright red so clearly it was just cranberry juice for an overpriced $16. Conch fritters were over cooked. The best part of the meal was coconut shrimp, but we’ve had better. For $260 for this meal, including gratuity, we would not be back. Waitress did not seem to like that we wanted to order for the table and eat family style, even though we asked if that was okay. When I asked to review the bill, the waitress hovered over me with the electronic device. I couldn’t see the amount of taxes or fees she said were added for back of house. Once I clicked the gratuity amount and tried to sign it didn’t even give me a total, but just ran as soon as my finger touched the signature block. When the waitress asked about the food, and I said it was bland, the comment was, well maybe better...
Read moreWe were a party of 4 and most of us were pleased with our drinks, food and service. The only down side was that I ordered grouper, which I haven’t had for a while but once my meal arrived the fish on my plate did not look or taste like grouper. It looked and tasted like tilapia, a fish that I never eat but this seems to be the go to replacement for other fish as well in many other restaurants. It’s much cheaper and can be passed off easily for several other fish. I returned my plate and requested the snapper and our very gracious server Andre obliged and said he’d let the chef know. Unfortunately my new dish did not arrive until my fellow diners completed their meals. But bread was offered while I waited. My snapper was fresh and delicious but the mashed plantains were chunky with a weird consistency and taste. I did not eat it and asked for mashed potatoes instead. It was promptly received. Though all in all the food in general was good, it wasn’t impressionable enough to warrant a...
