Purani Dilli recently hosted its renowned biryani festival, offering an impressive array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian biryanis. The selection included some truly unique and flavorful options, such as the Sufiyani vegetable biryani, Bohra fish biryani, and most notably, the Kathal (jackfruit) dum biryani. The Kathal biryani was unlike any I had ever tried before; it featured tender pieces of young jackfruit marinated in a spiced yogurt mixture, then slow-cooked in a rich Mughlai gravy, and layered with fragrant saffron rice. The combination created a harmonious blend of spices and textures, making it a standout dish. The Lazeez chicken biryani was another highlight, with perfectly cooked, tender chicken nestled within aromatic saffron rice, garnished with fried onions, rose water, and slivered almonds, adding both flavor and visual appeal.
The meal began on a flavorful note with crispy papads, followed by an assortment of starters that set the tone for a satisfying dining experience. The kebabs were particularly impressive, featuring a variety of meatsâincluding juicy mutton, succulent fish, plump prawns, and tender chickenâserved with a spicy mint and coriander chutney that complemented each bite. Vegetarian options like Palak anjeer ke kebob, a mildly sweet dish made with yams, spinach, and aromatic Indian spices, and Dahi kebob, crunchy deep-fried bites of hung yogurt mixed with cottage cheese and spices, provided excellent variety and proved just as flavorful.
For the main courses, the standout dishes included Lahsuni palak kasâa creamy, fragrant spinach dish that was both comforting and delicious. The Shahi Makhani Paneer was rich and velvety, perfect for dipping naan into its luscious gravy. The Mutton Do Pyaza was hearty and aromatic, featuring tender morsels of mutton in a flavorful onion gravy that left us craving more. Each dish showcased the skillful use of spices and cooking techniques, elevating traditional flavors to new heights.
To round off the meal, we enjoyed desserts like Chukander E afroz, a luscious, milk-based dish infused with dried milk and sweetened beetroot, and Ras Malai, a classic Indian delicacy of soft cottage cheese soaked in creamy, sweetened milk. Both desserts offered a perfect balance of sweetness and richness, providing a satisfying conclusion to our feast.
Overall, the biryani festival at Purani Dilli was a delightful celebration of traditional Indian cuisine with innovative twists. The variety, quality, and authentic flavors made for a memorable dining experience. Whether you're a biryani enthusiast or someone looking to explore diverse Indian dishes, I highly recommend attending this festival. Itâs a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a wide range of flavorful, expertly prepared dishes in a lively,...

Being is Delhlite, the name âPURANI DILLIâ in itself is nostalgic for us. The very well defined it in few words as, âWhere stories of fine taste and the fabled, buzzing by-lanes are relished together. Where nostalgia is served on a platter, entertained by the culture and charm of the most iconic historic capital of the world.â
Purani Dilli, with its two branches, had already made its name in the top list of best Indian restaurants in UAE. It offers the authentic flavours of Mughlai food & also the street food of Dilli. Borrowing its inspiration from the legendary Mughal kitchens, every dish uses distinct home-made spices, which create a symphony of rich, inimitable dishes for guests to enjoy. With such instagrammable interiors, this place will surely fascinate you to get atleast one click of every wall, every corner. The interiors of the restaurant gives a feel of walking through the streets of old Delhi with the wall murals & the antique mirrors all over the place. I personally loved the way they have decorated their gallery. The staff is really very helpful. We were invited by the Head Chef Mohammed Afroz, who not only helped us through the menu but also make sure we enjoyed our lunch.

Read morePurani Dilli truly preserves our Indian Culture | @puranidilliszr This place severs some authentic Dilli Wala Khana which of course has Mughlai Flavors. .. Nailing Mughlai flavors is not easy and there are only handful or restaurants who are successful in doing this. Best part about Mughlai food is that it is made with distinct spices. Only a few chefs know the perfect mix of all the spices and we ensure you @puranidilliszr s a hidden gem but this oneâs not a hidden gem it is pretty much a Gem known by everyone. .. The ambience here is very beautifully done as it reflects old palace like feel. We were thrilled to see the amazing service as well. Mona, Tarun, Abhijith, Ajeet were outstanding hosts. No wonder why @puranidilliszr has made it to top 10 Indian restaurants in Dubai. .. Letâs talk about the food. We ordered: Starters: Veg Kebab Platter: Which had Dahi ke Kebab, Paneer Tikka, Veg Seekh Kebab and Veg Galouti Kebab. Drinks: Lemon Mint and Chass Main Course: Lehsuni Palak, Soya Chaap Gravy and Lassoni Dal Tadka Along with Bread Basket (Bhatti Ki Tokri) and Zeera Chawal. Wait-wait its not over yet, we also had Desserts: Desserts: Ras Malai and Chukandar Ka Halwa (Beet Root ka halwa). .. Chef Shalin ensured that we are fully content with the meal and walk out happily. Everything was so very delicious and perfect but of course we have our picks from this menu. We would suggest you to definitely try Veg Kebab Platter (because it has all the kebabs ), from the mains we would suggest you to try Lehsuni Palak as it is really very tasty and Dak Tadka is best to none. Also, the desserts served here are fantastic canât pick between the two because Ras Malai served here is so very authentic while Beetroot halwa is something that we had it only for the first time and we loved it. .. We would highly recommend you this place if you are into north Indian Mughlai food, for Delhihites this will probably be very nostalgic but other would definitely love it.
