Today we visited Sukhothai, a hidden gem nestled within Le Meridien Dubai which offers an authentic Thai dining experience that is nothing short of spectacular. The restaurant's decor transports you to a traditional Thai setting, complete with intricate hand-carved wooden pillars and elegant chaise lounges. The orchid blooms strategically placed throughout the restaurant add a touch of freshness and color to the overall ambiance.
The food at Sukhothai is equally impressive. The menu offers a variety of à la carte dishes, including curries, rice dishes, and noodle specialties, all bursting with authentic Thai flavors. Each dish is carefully crafted and presented on banana leaves, adding to the overall dining experience. The restaurant also offers vegetarian and vegan options, making it an ideal spot for all diners. Business lunches with a set menu also available for those who look for a full course menu.
The service at Sukhothai is impeccable, with attentive staff ensuring that your dining experience is nothing short of exceptional. We are grateful to our server Nirmada who did excellent job with hospitality and accommodating our baby’s needs. The newly acquired Chef, Sakphon, takes the time to interact with diners, providing an extra touch of warmth and personalization to the overall experience.
To top off the meal, the restaurant offers a delectable selection of Thai-inspired desserts and drinks, ensuring that your taste buds are left satisfied and craving more. Also tons of wines from various parts of the world are displayed on the wine rack for those who look for a decent wine to be paired with Thai food. There are a few popular options to consider. Here are my five cents for those who would not afraid experimenting:)
Riesling: A classic choice, Riesling's high acidity and slight sweetness can complement the spiciness and flavors of Thai dishes. Off-dry Rieslings, in particular, work well with spicy and sweet Thai dishes.
Gewürztraminer: Another aromatic white wine, Gewürztraminer has a unique floral and fruity character that can enhance the flavors of Thai cuisine. Its sweetness can also balance out spicy dishes.
Pinot Noir: A light-bodied red wine, Pinot Noir's subtle fruit flavors and earthy undertones can pair nicely with the complex flavors of Thai food. It's best to choose a Pinot Noir with low tannins to avoid overpowering the food.
Chenin Blanc: A versatile white wine, Chenin Blanc's high acidity and mineral-driven flavors can balance the richness of Thai dishes, especially those with coconut-based curries.
Sparkling Rosé: The refreshing acidity and fruity flavors of sparkling rosé can pair well with a variety of Thai dishes, particularly those with fresh herbs and spices.
Although, the best wine pairing depends on the specific Thai dish you will order and your personal preferences. So you need to experiment to find the right one.
Getting back to the main theme, Sukhothai is an outstanding Thai restaurant which we loved, it offers an immersive dining experience, from its captivating decor to its delicious cuisine and excellent service. It's a must-visit spot for anyone looking to indulge in a truly authentic Thai culinary...

The restaurant is located inside the Le Meridian hotel. So you have to really navigate your way from the parking and on your way there you’ll probably pass by all the other popular restaurants, till you actually get to Sukhothai. The restaurant’s design and decor is set deep in tones of dark polished wood work along with gorgeous carvings and patterns. Beautiful antique sculptures and paintings surround the tables that are placed in the centre of the restaurant. With light instrumental music, the smell of lemongrass and fresh wood wafting through the air we really felt the true Thai ambience setting in.
Bite Board:
Being a set course Iftar Meal [AED 129] we were served with the following dishes:
A P P E T I Z E R S
Chicken Satay served with peanut sauce: This was one of the best satays we’ve had so far, as the chicken was soft and succulent as well as complemented the sauce provided.
Fish Cakes: This was something we tried out for the first time. It tasted a lot like stuffed cutlets. This one was really packed with flavours and surprisingly did not taste like fish. So even if you’re not a fan of fishy dishes, you’re probably going to like this one!

After the appetizers, we were then served the Tom Yum Soup. The soup was power packed with tangy and spicy flavours. It was so tangy that it probably leaned way into tomato sauce territory, almost losing the plot for authentic tom yum soup. However, overall it tasted great!

Next up on our menu was the main course which was a serving of the staple sticky white rice accompanied by the red thai chicken curry. Both the dishes complemented each other perfectly and sure enough, this was just as yum as we expected.
We were also served a lovely dish of Fried Hummour with sweet and sour Chilli sauce over it. This was certainly a hit dish, we absolutely enjoyed it. The fish was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sauce of-course, complemented the crispy fish which made it absolutely delicious.

Tapioca with Shredded Coconut and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This dish was served as square slices of tapioca with coconut shredded over it and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. The tapioca tasted really good! We were quite sceptical at first but thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. It went great with the ice cream too.
Water Chesnut in Coconut Milk, something we’ve tried and tested in various thai restaurants. This dessert helped cool down our systems after a hot and spicy ride from appetizers to soup to main. So in that sense, it really was welcomed and enjoyed.
Service: The service was exceptional. We were given our seats with zero waiting time. Our orders were taken and brought to our table in reasonable time. The servers themselves were also quite courteous and made our visit truly comfortable.
Cash Outflow: For the entire experience, definitely worth the money and surely deserves another visit.
Circling Back: Of course! For THE most authentic Thai food experience, it doesn’t get more...

We started our meal with a delicious papaya salad, flavourful prawn satay, crispy deep-fried prawns wrapped in glass noodles and a sweet dimsum stuffed with minced meat and peanuts. After binging on these delicious appetisers, we moved on to the pomelo salad and Tom yum soup. I mean how can you go to a Thai restaurant and skip their famous sour and spicy soup right?
For mains, we tried the chicken tossed with crunchy, freshly toasted cashew nuts and vegetables, pad Thai noodles that oozed with vibrant Thai flavours, green curry with juicy king prawns and steamed sea bass that was packed with flavours but too lemony for our taste.
By now, we were quite stuffed with all the yummy food we had eaten but obviously we left a wee bit of space for dessert. We tried the pandan creme brûlée - a silky smooth custard with a rich flavour and a caramelised sugar topping and the famous Thai dessert - Tub Tim Krob which was utterly delicious.
We had a lovely, authentic Thai experience overall. Since the weather is at its best, we decided to sit outdoors and the service was spectacular. They also had a Thai performer who graciously greeted everyone with her pleasing smile and danced gracefully to soothing tunes every 30 mins.
Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to dine at a warm and comforting Thai restaurant with great food and service. Special thanks to Shreyas for his hospitality and...
