Known as Bath’s “best-known secret” if you like cocktail bars, this is the place for you. This is quite possibly one of the coolest cocktail bars that we’ve ever been to. Opium is a bespoke designed bar that is underneath Spring Gardens Road, right by Pulteney Bridge. It is so neat because it feels like you are searching for and finding a secret place!

Because it is under a bridge, the bar is kind of sectioned off into three parts (there is also a secret room you can book for parties!). Each section has its theme and mood. The aesthetic screams chill and relaxation. What a vibe. Pair that with a delicious cocktail, sign me up… sign you up! It wasn’t that busy when we went, as it was earlier and a weeknight, but I can’t imagine how amazing it would be there when the place was full.

We sat at the back, on cushions on the floor. I fully “lounged” out. On our way out we got chatting with the bartenders, as we normally do, and they couldn’t talk enough about how much they loved living in Bath. It is always great to hear that in a city...

Night was ruined by poor service. We waited over half an hour for our drinks before I had to remind the waiter that we ordered. He said he would then go get them sorted straight away. Another 20mins past (50 mins since I ordered) and still no drinks. I had to go to the bar myself to check where they were. The bar wasn't even aware of the order and said they apologise for the wait and that they would add a baby guiness to the order as an apology. Even after this there was another 10min wait and I saw our drinks get offered to another table prior to them arriving to us, also, shock...no baby guiness.

Poor management and organisation was the main issue. Tables numbers seem like a simple solution to solve this mess. Staff relied on their memory and this failed during our visit.

Our night was ruined and ended up paying £24 to sit around and wait for over an hour for two...

Highlight of my hen weekend!

I am over the moon we booked a private room at Opium Bar for my hen weekend - it was an absolute blast and the highlight.

The room for the vibe of the weekend perfectly. It felt like a hidden, quirky speakeasy - when we arrived there were candles and incense burning 👌 Drinks were great and we were able to have a tab to pay at the end.

There was a group of 10 of us and the size was perfect for karaoke and dancing (which we quickly got stuck into). It was so much fun!

Most importantly huge shout out to Molly and her team who looked after us. What a fantastic bunch of women! We had such a laugh with them and they really made the evening. Thank you ladies - you...

Really great vibey place in a slightly unexpected location. Not just your average bar - felt like I was somewhere unique, intimate, really cool vibrant deco, had some floor seating which was really nice and chilled, decent selection of cocktails (including mocktails and alcohol free spirits) and reasonable pricing. The cocktails we ordered were pretty tasty and had a good kick to them. Very different from your typical bar and worth checking out for sure. We sat in the last cave which is one of four. Would be even better if it was table service with some nibbles on offer, as you can only order at the bar.
