Another addition to the fine dining Indians of Bath. Poppadoms and dips were of the “fine-dining” type and brilliant if you like that sort of thing (some were a bit greasy if you want to be really picky) - but no lime pickle and no big crisps so I was a little disappointed. The mixed starter for two (at £28 so not cheap) was the highlight of the meal for me - and was delicious. I had the lamb shank special and my friend had a chicken special. Both were tasty and rich. Lamb meat did fall off the bone as you’d hope and was extremely tender and well cooked. I had a taste of my friend’s chicken dish and that was also pretty good. The flavours were quite subtle and I’ve had more fragrantly spiced and distinctively flavoured Indian dishes elsewhere. Two sides, nan and rice all fine. We had two beers each.
Where we were sat was by the entrance and bar and we initially felt like the naughty kids as everyone else was on the lower level. (I had reserved a table in advance not knowing where we’d be seated) - atmosphere was weird for us for this reason. Later our area filled up. We were then very close to the people who later sat next to us - very little privacy for us or them.
Can’t fault the service really - pretty good all in all.
The bill inc 12.5% tip was £68 per head. This is the main reason for not giving 5 stars. At this price point for me the meal needs to be fantastic throughout. The starter was good value, at £14 each, because it was fantastic in flavour variety and presentation. I was less convinced of the value for money of the rest. Great but not fantastic? I’m glad to have tried this out, very much enjoyed my night out (glad that I split the bill with my mate!) but might not return for a...
Read moreEdit- the restaurant is now calling me a liar because I left an honest review. I am attaching a screenshot of my booking at this place as evidence of having dined here. Perhaps they can take some responsibility for providing bad food to their customers. We recently went to this place for my birthday with 5 other friends. My friends and I love Indian food and have tried almost all Indian restaurants in Bath. This being a new Indian in town with great online reviews we thought we would try it for my birthday. We were massively disappointed. The food was terrible. Half of us left our dishes only after eating a few bites. There used to be another Indian restaurant here called "Tulsi Tandoori" which offered British Indian food. The new owners have not even bothered to change much of the decor from the previous (really grubby old ladies' Bathroom which has an old fish tank without any fish in it). We were served really oliy popadoms which were broken into small pieces (probably end of the batch.) Most of the dishes lacked flavour. We got red wine and white wine. The white wine felt off although we were not sure so we didn't say anything. Also, they are not cheap. One of the most expensive Indians in Bath I would say. However, one of the worst Indians in Bath in terms of taste. I usually don't leave bad reviews like this but we felt cheated as the place is advertised as a posh Indian. They certainly charge the posh prices but the food taste and quality is bad! Most of the reviews online seem to be bought as they show dishes that are not offered on the menu. I do not...
Read moreRoot Spice Indian Food absolutely exceeded our expectations! My mum and I went for the 2-course lunch set and it was one of the best Indian meals we've had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the staff were welcoming, friendly, and made us feel right at home.
For starters, we had the chaat and the fish masala. The chaat was a burst of flavor – tangy, crunchy, and refreshing, with just the right balance of spice and sweetness. The fish masala was cooked to perfection – the fish was tender and flaky, and the sauce was rich, aromatic, and full of depth. You could tell the spices were freshly ground and thoughtfully blended.
For our mains, we chose the lamb rogan josh and the chicken pitia. The lamb was melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a deep, earthy sauce that clung beautifully to each bite. The chicken pitia was something special – slightly sweet, subtly spiced, and incredibly comforting. Both dishes came with perfectly cooked rice and warm, fluffy naan that was ideal for scooping up all the delicious sauces.
We left feeling completely satisfied and already planning our next visit. The quality of the food, the generous portions, the reasonable pricing, and the attentive service make this place a real gem. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic Indian cuisine made with care...
