Pepper Chef — Restaurant in Birmingham

Despite the suspiciously similar name, logo, style, menu, and furnishings to the widely successful Japanese chain "Pepper Lunch", this Pepper Chef restaurant has absolutely no affiliations whatsoever with the former, and any expectations of the same level of quality, taste, or service will leave patrons sorely disappointed.

Even without comparing Pepper Chef to the Pepper Lunch chain it was clearly inspired from, and taking it on its own merits, it would not make any measurable amount of difference. The food was served on sizzling plate that was barely sizzling, all already cooked. The ratio of the meal components were off -- too much rice and too little of everything else -- and the food was under-seasoned and very very dry. The menu was a mix of poorly-executed copies of Pepper Lunch items and a huge number of traditional Chinese items, akin to what one would find in a Chinese restaurant.

At the time of visit during dinner service, the actual premises were not kept clean and the floors had a sticky residue you are reminded of every time it comes into contact with the soles of your shoes.

Given the quality of the meals (or lack thereof), the items are priced far too high which left us wondering if we really have just paid such an amount for what essentially was a lacklustre dinner. On the upside, they do serve delicious freshly-squeezed fruit juice as they have a partnership with the store next door for drinks.

Unfortunately due to this experience neither me nor my colleagues will be coming back to this restaurant. There are far better Chinese, Korean, and Malaysian restaurants in the vicinity which deserve...

Very rude staff and poor quality food. I went for takeaway and when I eventually got served I began saying what I would like 4 separate times and each time the person I was talking to just started talking - while I was mid sentence- to another member of staff that wouldn’t stop shouting across the whole time I was there. No apology, no ‘excuse me’, no smile of acknowledgement, just plain rudeness. She then just walked away 😂 turning her back to me to potter with the till before finally turning back round and taking my order. When I first walked in I asked if they accepted card. They said I could only pay cash then changed their mind when they realised I didn’t have cash on me and said they would let me pay by card. The shouty one then came to take my payment after I had my order and told me it was £50 minimum for card payments. I said I had already queried if this was possible for my order. I then offered 3 times, if they would prefer I went and drawn out cash. She didn’t even look at me, let alone respond. Just thrust the card machine at me whilst looking in completely the opposite direction. I was still trying to smile through this and be polite so they had no reason to be the way they were. I hadn’t given them any ammo at all. To crown it all, the Chicken Chow Mein was dry, bland and the amount of chicken in there was literally 4 bits, each the size of half a bit of popcorn. Not even joking, that’s how much was there. But, I have to say their complete ignorant attitudes was the worst part. They do not deserve any custom at all. Keep your money and go...

Pleasant and cozy place. As soon as you step into this restaurant, the service treats you absolutely lovely. They all have knowledge about the plate and the amount of food in each plate.

As fas as the neatness is concerned, they restaurant looks clean and neat. The staff tidy and clean the tables that have been emptied as soon as the customer leaves which gives you trust to eat comfortably.

However, the main dishes were served long time after ordering. We were served the starter first and honestly, that was quite quick. To our surprise, it took them about 30 or 35 minutes after eating the starter to serve the main dishes. As usual, I´m not saying they do this regularly, it was our experience.

The best, the food was delicious. We ordered Beef Chow Mein and vegetable Chow Mien. Oddly enough, the beef was soft and well cooked, the plate was full of flavors and the amount of food on the plate was huge.
