I was off out to a gig up the JQ and decided to leave the house earlier and go out and treat myself to a takeaway. I’m on a diet so I’m no longer indulging in huge meals, my stomach has shrunk a bit and I fill up quicker. I had planned to get out earlier and head into town Hall Green / Sparkbrook way on the Electric 6 and go to one of the food joints there. But I didn’t so decided on Wingstop for a small meal deal. Well first of all they don’t do a meal deal (Except for kids. Should have just ordered that). You buy everything separately. I had planned on wings but at £7.50 for 10 plus fries and a drink on top I was like nah. So I got 3 strips and regular fries and held out on any liquid till later. That was about £8. If you know this place you’ll know you get a load of different flavours from mild to hot. I don’t care for hot. I went for lemon and pepper cos I love lemon chicken. Taste wise it was a hit for me. Reminded me of the lemon chicken at a pub me and my ex used to go to up near Tamworth infact. But the tenders are just bland. They felt cheap. Not specially hand breaded or dredged. Just mass produced by Lamb Weston or similar and delivered frozen in large blue plastic bags kinda feel. The fries had been sitting for a while and were not particularly fresh or hot. I got given a ranch dip but there was no ketchup or BBQ sauce options for fries. Like another poster here there was a liquid at the bottom of the tray. I kinda assumed it was lemon seasoning though I am not so sure now. So although my tastebuds kinda suggest that I could go back here I’m not sure I want to. The lack of a meal deal is a killer. The lack of personality of the basic food is another. And then there’s the music. It was so loud it was unpleasant. Without even bringing my taste in music into it - yet - it was awful. Even music I like at that volume would be unpleasant while dining. Target market though. Image is everything. The image it projects is - like the music they...
Read moreI recently visited Wingstop in Birmingham, eager to try their famed wings after hearing so much buzz about the place. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm quickly faded once I tasted the food. To put it bluntly, it was just average, and certainly not worth the hype that surrounds this establishment.
Firstly, let’s talk about the wings. I tried several flavors, hoping to find something that would stand out. While the options were plentiful, the taste fell short of expectations. The wings were cooked adequately but lacked the bold flavors that I had anticipated. I found them to be surprisingly bland, and even the sauces didn’t offer much of a kick. The garlic parmesan was decent, but nothing I couldn’t whip up at home with a little butter and garlic powder.
The ambiance of the restaurant was another aspect that didn’t live up to the hype. It was casual, and while I appreciate a laid-back atmosphere, it felt a bit too basic for a place that prides itself on its wings. The seating was cramped, and although the staff was friendly, the overall dining experience was less than exciting.
Additionally, I found the prices to be a tad high for what was delivered. Given the average quality of the food, I expected a more budget-friendly menu. For the amount I paid, I was hoping for a more memorable meal, but sadly, it didn’t deliver.
Overall, Wingstop Birmingham is a place that seems to rely heavily on its popularity rather than the quality of its food. If you’re looking for a chain restaurant with wings that are merely passable, it might be worth a visit. However, if you’re after a truly exceptional wing experience, I’d suggest exploring other options in the area. Unfortunately, it looks like I won’t be returning anytime soon; the hype simply doesn’t match...
Read more£13.95 for the full flavour fix, a reasonable amount of food, enough for me to feel quite full. The staff are considerate, explaining how things work while you're in the queue. There's a reasonable amount of seating space inside but quite packed on a Sunday.
I've been to wingstop twice now, first time to this branch and despite the hype I'm not massively blown away by the flavours. The dry rubs in particular are quite subtle and easily drowned out by the sauces. This time I had lemon pepper, mango habanero and original. I had Cajun seasoning on the fries. They were fine, could have done with a bit more seasoning maybe. The ranch and blue cheese sauces are quite good, I think I even prefer the blue cheese since it's not as tangy as the ranch. The lemon pepper was quite good but it's a subtle flavour easily overpowered by the sauces. The original is a tangy buffalo sauce with a bit of heat, also good. The mango habanero is somewhat hot with a sweet mango flavour. While it has the heat of a habanero I don't think I could detect the flavour.
I've also tried spicy Korean in the past, which I did not like. Louisiana rub is one of my favourites as well as garlic parmesan however both are subtle flavours.
The notable thing about wingstop is the quality of the fried chicken which I found to be quite good, the chicken is well fried, battered...
