Not the plan - classic restaurant/cafe with rude waitress. Just come to Edinburgh for exploring different cafe places and head back to London this week. I had a bit hard feeling for the waitress who served me yesterday afternoon….

I first cane to the cafe I wanna order your lunch menu and work with my laptop, however, it been 2:45 pm and the stuff told me just only had pastry next to the til which is fine for me and I understood. So I just ordered an ice latte for a site.

Due I see you had a label marked on the table which is a laptop area, so I didn’t look after the time or anything tbh… approximately after 2 hrs… She come straight to my face and asked me…. Do you want to order more to have extra hrs for the site? (What you feel like if you were me?) I even haven’t finished my drink…

Ok, then I knew it’s the time I have to leave if I don’t keep ordering food/drink. It’s just so rude & embarrassing next to the classic hotel especially when you asking customers like that.. aw

I am ready to pay after I came out from the bathroom, and she literally just stood front of the counter reminding me to pay for the bill……. Wait wt???? Excuse me????? I was like thinking what happening in here from the drink order to pay for my bill…. I WILL PAY FOR IT DW

Didn’t ask you if you need a recipes Didn’t say thank you after payment You don’t have to smile to me but you have be respectful to all the customers… that’s basic…

Anyway, I really like the Interior and lighting design in here, it’s give the complement of the cafe but after all this feeling from her… No more, thank you.

I think maybe learn how to interpret things in a decent way which not make the customer feel unwelcoming and embarrassing...

We had a bad experience at the cafe. The first few times we visited, all was great. The staff were friendly and service was good. The most recent time we visited however, there was a waiter there who we hadn't seen before and treated us badly. We arrived and ordered 2x hot chocolates and a pastry. An hour later, he came back and asked if we wanted another hot chocolate or anything else, and we said no. He then came again very soon after and asked if we wanted anything. When we said we didn't, he said he needed the table back and he was going to bring the bill. He then brought it and asked us to go up and pay whenever we were ready. 5 minutes later he was back again and said he really needed the table, pressuring us to leave. Even though they don't do any bookings. When paying the bill, we asked about if there was a rule of how much customers should spend and how often. The woman said there was a purchase by hour policy, which they don't tell customers about...We said to the guy that we felt rushed and his defense was he asked us if we wanted anything and we said no. He said he needed to run the cafe "like a business" and this is the norm in the hospitality sector, even though I've never been rushed out of a cafe before. Instead of being transparent with customers, he indirectly pressured us to leave and when we complained, he didn't even accept that wasn't the right way to deal with customers. Such a shame as this was becoming our go-to coffee place in Edinburgh but we won't be returning. Good luck to him "running it like a business" - doubt he will have many customers left if he's treating customers...

Poor customer service, condescending and rude. This was a staple cafe before the staff became extremely pushy about staying time and the ā€˜purchase by hour policy’ - I understand the general sentiment behind this policy but the staff do not maintain any tact or subtlety or politeness with this. They will make you feel unwelcome, uncomfortable and stingy if you don’t want to spend Ā£15-20 to stay in the cafe for more than 2 hours to get some work done. If they don’t want students or people looking to get some work done to come to their cafe they should stop advertising it as such and pandering towards a crowd they do not want to accommodate. It’s ridiculous to have been sat down for 45 minutes and be bombarded every 15 minutes to buy something else worth Ā£5. I understand you can’t turn away paying customers but the approach is simply too aggressive and too corporate. Also - every single on the menu tastes bad, the drinks are gritty and watery and the food/pastries taste waxy and nauseating. Do not waste your time here to spend money on overpriced food/drink and to be...

Very pretty setting but it’s absolutely not worth going. The first time I came with my family, the staff was rude to us and tried to make us feel stupid when we asked why we couldn’t seat at tables that were free and not reserved. They told us to wait and they’ll tell us when a table was ready for us. A few minutes later, a group of the same size arrived and they got a table offered right away without reservation. This felt enough for a bad review but I decided to come back to see if the food was at least good and unfortunately this is the worst coffee and hot chocolate I’ve tasted in Edinburgh. The prices are similar to the nice coffee shops not so far from Mayvin except here the coffee and hot chocolate taste like dirty water. I was not able to finish my hot chocolate as this was genuinely one of the worst ones I’ve ever tasted. There are so many nice coffee shops in Edinburgh that sell wonderful food and drinks for similar/better prices, so do not waste your time here!
