Very disappointed with this place. The queue was ridiculously long when we finally ordered, I asked for a couple of bottles of water they said they had none left, I explained it was for our children who will only drink water and asked if we could have tap water for them. I was told we can't give you that. Shocked I said really? The member of staff asked someone else they shook their head. I didn't understand why I have never known this before anywhere. Our children now had no drinks.
Our food then came out we were all shocked at the tiny food portions. I ordered a large chips I was presented with a small plate which would have been small for a regular portion, a family member ordered mushy peas and chips and was given a plate not much bigger than a saucer with a few chips on and a dollop of mushy peas - this was supposed to be an adult meal but looked like a toddler portion. They didn't bring out one of the meals we had ordered then when we asked they claimed we hadn't ordered it when I definitely know I did - so a 9 year old girl had to sit there hunger because they had messed the order up! We got told it was coming but had to pay for it because they hadn't charged me. I went to the counter refused to join the large queue as our food was going cold and it was there mistake which they hadn't even apologised for. They ignored me for a few minutes despite knowing the situation and knowing I was waiting to pay. I asked again if I could please pay they were unhelpful and unfriendly. I paid and we finally received our missing order.
Less than five minutes later a family accross the room began angrily telling the staff there order is wrong when they were presented with the food by the waiter. They too had young children who had to wait. Not once did any of the staff apologise to us or the other family for their mistakes. I won't ever be going...
Read moreBlackpool Fish Factory was recommended to me by a friend. It was a very rainy day, and the cafe was busy. First problem was ordering. First you have to wait to be seated, then return to a counter with a table number to place your order. Its not clear that you order at the 'drinks counter' for table service order so it wasn't until I clarified with a member of staff that I went to the correct counter. The other is for takeout/takeaway orders. Clear signage could solve this problem. I was waiting at the takeaway counter to be served & and place my order after choosing my seat, and being ignored by staff until I queried the delay. Cutlery is self service.
Fish (haddock)was good, and fresh and flakey. Batter crispy but flavourless, my hot drink never turned up. Service was prompt tho. When I'd sorted out the ordering. A real downer was the oil. Top fish places just don't have a nasty oily smell on the chips.
The menu is extensive, not just fish, but burgers, hot dogs. Almost a complete classic English 'greasy spoon' menu, with a fish theme. Would I eat here again , probably not, , but if I did I'd order a regular or large fish rather than small. Sauces/ketchup was in a refill container and watery/cheap, and that was a big disappointment. No mayo.
Atmosphere, it's a large restaurant, and very popular, but let down by a few points.
Service. Yes its a large busy restaurant, but clarity of what how to order could be better. Drink, orders but never turned up. Price, average for a seaside town/beach front. I didn't use the facilities but it looked like the restaurant was all ground floor including toilets.
Plenty of other places in the area, but I didn't have time to...
Read moreI've been here two or three times a year every year for the last 10 years plus during our family days out to Blackpool. This use to be one of the best fish and chips shops in Blackpool. Amazing fresh caught fish that day, excellent batter, table service and well decorated / maintained unfortunately that's what it use to be. I went with my family Saturday 12th October and there was absolutely nothing to like. Food is now served in plastic baskets as opposed to proper plates. Cutlery is now wooden knives and forks not the metal utensils as before. Food was ready in less than 5 minutes of ordering as opposed to 20 to 30 minutes as before but that unfortunately was a good thing. Chips were Luke warm not fresh cooked as before probably held in a warmer. Fish batter wasn't even cooked all the way through and was soggy. Fish itself didn't have that taste of sea like it was fresh that day like before, more like sat around for days. Menu prices have gone up which is understandable but for the downgrade in quality, absence of table service, absence of proper cutlery and no free refills should have meant a reduction in price. I was there at 5pm during peak season (Blackpool lights) should have known it had changed as only 5 or 6 tables occupied unlike waiting for...
