Club Restaurant at Captain's Club Hotel — Restaurant in England

I was advised this was a really great place for a meal. As it was a work / customer event it seemed like an easy option, especially as work have extensively used this place for food and accommodation.

Great starters but mains for a table of 6 were very poor. Monkfish had to be returned cold, lamb was warm and cooked through but not served pink as ordered, hasselback potatoes were 2 x very small crunchy overcooked rocks. 3 seafood linguine raised complaints of lack of seafood, random overcooked languistine that was dressing as wasn't edible, 2 x mussels and a overcooked fillet of salmon.

Service was excellent, couldn't be more understanding and handled the issues perfectly, provided complementary deserts which were good and appreciated. Can't praise the front of house team enough.

Venue is very nice and I wouldn't normally write a long review of poor experience but given the reputation and expectation I was really disappointed. I was planning to take the Wife for a meal based on the venue and starter, but now I'm looking elsewhere.

Everyone at work is saying it's very unusual, that food is great and this must be a one off, maybe so but unless work chose this venue again I won't...

Very disappointing Meal at Captains Club Restaurant after an even worse afternoon Cram Tea previously !

The service was good . the food looked good but rack of lamb was tough and tasteless the hassle back potatoes were cold and completely dry . The meal was also not hot .The moules were stringy and chewy and not pleasant at all & sauce was tasteless . The Burata salad was nice but uninteresting and overpriced The only thing we enjoyed were the Olives and bread ! We did not complain at the time as there seemed little point ,as we’d already complained about the terrible afternoon tea with stale scones and awful tasteless sandwiches sometime before .. we are not complainers unless it is genuinely not good . This was not good at allIm sorry to say . The Menu was not varied enough and very overpriced . Also the venue totally lacked any atomosphere , It was also one of the groups birthday which added to the disappointment . one of us have subsequently have cancelled a further booking as a result of this very very disappointing meal Not at all impressed and this should not...

I've been here before and it was good, so took my wife and brother while we were visiting the area. Sadly, it was not great this time, especially so considering the prices.

Simple things let them down with the food. I had a lettuce core in my ceaser salad, the cauliflower cheese was dry and tasteless and the roast dinners served outside on cold plates. We would expect better at a pub restaurant so were dissapointed by this.

We heard two other tables complaining, one had to ask twice for cutlery while their meal went cold and the other had to request a menu.

It had the feeling of maybe inexperienced or new staff, but this should not be the case when paying above average prices. I would expect better, although I should add our waiter was very friendly.

Would I go back? Well I will see what the reply is like as I visit the area every other month, but if not there are plenty of other places to try when it...
