Kurt treatment by lady working there twice today so went to eat elsewhere. I'm expanding on my review in response to perceived blame by owner so:
The counter service was not prompt.
A previous review has cited a lack of debit card processing as an issue and I believe addressing this may result in less delays and build up of queues.
I Believe there were tables free downstairs and also the lady who I was talking with at the next table was not treated the same way I was and had been there longer. She was also sat alone after having struck up a conversation with me.
I would have been happy to share a table but then it was only me and not the female sat alone at the next table singled out with regard to owner needing [my] table free. Did the owner discriminate on grounds of gender?
I'd like to also make the point that I have disabilities and there is no carbohydrate count on the menu or disabled toilet with level ground floor accesses.
I do not believe I was overly slow. I do have diabetes and can need a zero/ low calorie/ carb drink sometimes.
I would have spend more had it not been for what I see as being singled out by the owner.
I'm happy to expand further and add that I did have another negative experience there previously where what appeared to be a bogey was attached to plate.
I believe there was no excuse me, please or thank you by the owner on my most recent negative experience, which is basic customer service. No one else in the cafe was approached ìn the same manner while I was there.
I am happy to expand on points and clarify as much as I can. I have found no other incidents of a review having a response of owner saying she would prefer reviewer didn't return. Nothing like this has been said to me before reviewing the cafe and i have visited cafe repeatedly over many years. I did spend some time away from using the cafe after what looked like the bogey was attached to my plate (reference above) and it gave me some apprehension of ordering food.
The cafe serves my favourite tea and has a good location, and some happy looking staff, in it's positives.
The shepherd's pie, chips and portion size have impressed me in the past. Red onions are better than white in my opinion in a salad.
Double cream is a low carb alternative to milk as is no sugar soya milk with reference to diabetics counting their carbs.
Having a disabled toilet upstairs or stairlift to an adapted toilet downstairs would be better for some disabled customers as would table service. Larger print signage and less signage may be helpful to people with visual impairments.
A tech issue led to review this review being assigned as takeaway and now maybe dine in. To clarify, i left after finishing my drink and after perceived negative experience.
Is the Coffee Shop table service? Is it...
15/8/24, accompanied My mother, being a regular customer, she recommended we eat there. I ordered a jacket potato with prawns. When it was delivered to the table, it was a mound of shrimps, dry, tasteless and no sauce. I took it back and asked if they had any sauce and got a simple ‘NO’ as a reply. I returned with the plate and attempted to it eat it but it was totally without taste and the potato was somewhat hard. My mother took it back again and they took it into the kitchen and stirred mayonnaise into i. If I wanted mayo I’d have said so. In the end it was left and this put mother off eating her food. I was asked if I wanted something different but appetites were lost by then, so I declined. I would have expected an offer of a refund as the food was untouched. Shrimps are not prawns and I’ve never come across such a dish without prawn Marie sauce tbh. As my mother finished her drink, the sides and bottom of her mug was grey and black. It wasn’t dirty on inspection but looked horrible, maybe and invested on a few new mugs may not go amiss. The ‘young’ staff showed no interest with anything relayed to them and actually as we asked a passing waitress to take the food away, she merely skimmed past us, mumbling something unintelligible and was again approached at the entrance to the cafe only to be told ‘well it wasn’t me that took the order’ Clearly no training, no care for the customer. Is it so hard to take responsibility for a problem, rectify it and let the customer leave happy rather than resort to putting negative posts on review sites. It seems popularity has bred...
Read moreWhile wandering around Scarborough today, I spotted a board outside this coffee shop (it’s far more than that actually) detailing its “special breakfast“. I found it hard to believe that you could get what most places would call a large breakfast for just £4.90. The only caveat is that you also purchase a drink, which is no big deal.
So I went in to try it. The place was quite busy and I noticed that almost everyone had ordered this “special breakfast“.
I placed my order and paid (being surprised to find that they only take cash, so be warned!). Just 10 minutes later I was being presented with my meal and it was indeed exactly as described (see the photo).
Everything was very tasty and hot – you can’t ask much more than that. Unusually for me, I ended up leaving quite a bit. I guess I find that a small breakfast suits me better these days.
Note from my photos that there are two signs out front for this “special breakfast“ and they are slightly different. The one painted (somewhat permanently) on the window shows it including fries whereas the chalkboard has that changed to hash browns. They told me that this is a recent permanent change to the meal.
As I mentioned, I’d consider this more than just a coffee shop as they do several main meals as well as the breakfasts.
I checked out the loos and they are spotless, though they are on the lower floor with more seating and this is reached via a spiral staircase – which could be a problem for some people.
Overall, I can’t recommend this...
