Latitude 50, the newly opened restaurant nestled on the seafront of a new swanky hotel, shows great promise, but there is still work to be done to reach its full potential. Surprisingly, the Accor Hotel group has provided no guidance on the menu essentials, leaving the restaurant struggling to find its culinary identity. Given its proximity to Brixham, renowned for its upscale seafood, the absence of a Brixham-style upmarket Fish & Chips option on the menu was a missed opportunity.
However, the seafront location and elegant hotel setting provide a potential decent backdrop for a dining experience. The attentive and professional staff contribute positively to the overall ambiance. With some fine-tuning, Latitude 50 has the potential to become a prominent dining destination.
The key area for improvement lies in the menu. It lacks a clear focus and cohesive theme, which affects the overall dining experience. Incorporating signature dishes (think "The Ivy") or exploring local ingredients would help Latitude 50 carve out a unique culinary identity that reflects the region's flavors. Introducing a Brixham upmarket style Fish & Chips would be a fantastic addition that embraces the local seafood heritage. Menu very meaty on our visit, very limited vegetarian options.
In conclusion, Latitude 50 has all the ingredients for success, but it is still finding its feet. The seafront location and attentive staff create a positive dining atmosphere. However, the lack of menu guidance and absence of regional specialties dampen the experience. With a more defined culinary direction, embracing local flavors, and adding signature dishes, Latitude 50 can unlock its full potential and become a must-visit restaurant known for its...
Read moreHaving booked a special treat to a dear friend of an afternoon tea for 2pm,we arrived 15 mins early with no staff around at all for over 5 mins, when a receptionist and a waiter appeared and the waiter took us to the table, he was attentive throughout but we where not given a choice of filling of the finger sandwiches and as the tea arrived there was no plates and when requested a dinner plate and desert spoon was produced . the sandwiches were very sparcely filled but OK.The scone was light and and the jam and cream was amble. The tiny cakes were lovely. BUT the price was well over the top especially when compared with other excellent hotels close by and in the bay by almost 50% more So it was understandable why we sat alone in the restaurant On whole it was pleasant and my friend enjoyed but very disappointed not being able to eat half the sandwiches when spending £50 for the privilege of sitting in your hotel when others are far more welcoming and ask which filling you would prefer on the sandwiches Yet on leaving we notice that a coffee and cake was just over £5 why this sort of price would be reflected in ours would have been far better So Palace or Redcliffe hotels in the...
Read moreNice hotel in a great location, FOH staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, The room was spacious with a big bed and "smart" TV, don't know what was smart about it other than it had YouTube, However there was light coming in from the room door all night illuminating most of the room, also the pillows are slightly questionable, with one flat really hard pillow and one soft pillow but a hard soft, neither of the pillows felt adequate for my sleep, so was struggling all night to find a way to balance the two, managed to get to sleep in the end but woke up several times, would I stay here again? Yes I would but I would definitely come prepared with my...
