We're Back for 2022, and if anythjng the place is even better. Stand by for us camping out here again We were in York this weekend for a break. We'd done a little research and found this was one of the best pub/restaurants near to the Train Station. It did not disappoint. This pic is the sharer we had, as we were starving but had a ghost walk and meal booked later, so did a recce as planned on coming back for a 'fuller' meal at some point over the trip. Turns out (from our experience anyway) it's one of the BEST pubs in the city. The beer was awesome, the food was lovely, the prices were great (compared to a lot of other places). The team too were fantastic, over the weekend we mostly dealt with Esther, Harriet and Mollie, but all the staff were brill and so welcoming. Utterly professional, despite having to deal with with one very 'challenging' couple. They were all a great credit to their manager and...

I came in today for lunch with my girlfriend and ordered two fish & chips. A few minutes into our meal and my girlfriend found a hair in her meal. Actually wrapped around the the fish. I immediately went to the bar to tell a member of staff who went and got the manager. The manager came over and her exact words were “Ohhhhh Grim!” I couldn’t then finish my meal either - I’d had two bites of the fish and about 3 of the 11 chips we were given - but the manager told us that she could only give us a refund on the meal that contained the hair. I told her that I’d been completely put off of my meal but she simply said that there was nothing wrong with mine and wouldn’t be refunding it. I’ve been here a few times for drinks and quite liked the place until today. I shan’t...

The vibe in Lendal Cellars is absolutely amazing. The music is nothing like the same boring pop songs of every pub but goes from rock to jazz to romantic, and why not, given the atmosphere! The vaulted ceilings and the lovely garden provide both the cozy feeling that's perfect for the winter and the chill peace we need for summer. Surely it's a cellar pub with interesting choices but I've also personally found it to be a great spot to study and revise before exams. The staff is nice and welcoming and makes sure the tables are clean all the time. The menu is absolutely to try, not too expensive and good quality with kids options available as well. There's the WiFi, sure, but the place just calls for a retirement from city chaos and a good chat with friends....

We arrived a few minutes before 12 midday as was abruptly told they were closed. The staff entering to pub were rude, when we asked them what time they opened. Ordering food we weren’t allowed to have a coffee with our meal, as the coffee machine hadn’t warmed up, obviously boiling a kettle is too difficult. The food was edible, however the garlic bread had been burnt and very dry, the rocket was very wilted and slimy. No sooner than we’d finished the waitress was clearing both our plates, taking our drinks which hadn’t been finished. She was virtually standing over us, felt very rushed and pressured to get out. We’d only been in there for just over 40 minutes at that point. Shame because it’s a was a lovely pub on previous occasions when we’d visited.

If ever you find yourself in the city of York and feel a bit peckish, you could do worse that head for the Lendale Cellars which is a hidden pub situated, not surprisingly in Lendale,York, YO1 8AA. Walk down the steps and a warm welcome awaits you. This really is a unique atmosphere. The friendly staff are very welcoming and also very efficient. Food and drink, of which there is a wide variety, is very reasonably priced. We tried the fish and chips and it was excellent. There are a range of cask ales on offer and wines and spirits for all tastes. Well worth a visit if you want a unique experience. And you never know, you might just catch sight of the ghostly monk! Top class venue which I can't praise enough.
