Stonegate Yard — Restaurant in England

We've been visiting Stonegate for as long as we've been holidaying in York and have always found its ambience enchanting and the staff extremely friendly and helpful, and that's exactly why we decided to hold our wedding reception there. The communication we had with staff, both in person and via email, was professional and prompt - they made sure that everything including the room, drink and menu suited our requirements and organised well in advance of the day itself. When we arrived to start decorating the room, they were very accommodating; allowing us early entry and providing us with storage. On the day itself, the staff treated us (and our guests) like royalty. In fact I've never known service like it before. They made sure that food arrived when we desired, giving us plenty of time to mingle and have photographs taken. They even retrieved a missing key from a hotel in York for us. When we came to clear up the following day, they were still as attentive and congratulatory, providing us with a celebratory shot and coffee on the house! We spent the rest of the week in York, visiting Stonegate for both food and drinks - both of which are spectacular (we highly recommend the vegetarian lasagne!) There are certain members of staff that deserve a special thanks, and though we'd like to name them, it would be unfair for the ones who we never found out the names of - we hope they read this review and know who they are! Stonegate Yard will always have a special place in are hearts. Thank you again guys and gals, for helping to make are special day...

VERY disappointed when we ordered cocktails during happy hour, the waitress brought menus and informed us it was 2 cocktails for £12 and pointed to the list on the menu and house wine was £8.50 for 1/2 litre. We looked at the cocktails pointed out to us and ordered two different cocktails and a 1/2 litre of white wine. When the cocktails arrived she brought 4 cocktails 2 of each of the cocktails we had chosen. We told her she had made a mistake and she said perhaps she hadn't explained it very well. She did not point out that it was 2 of the same cocktail at any point in our order. We explained that we were booked into a restaurant to eat within the next 15 mins so couldn't possibly drink them. She then said it shouldn't be a problem she would speak with her manager. The Young manager came to the table and pointed out to us that in small print on the back of the menu it was 2 of the same. This had not been pointed out!! We offered to pay for 2 of the cocktails and the wine and we're more than happy to return the extra ones we didn't order. In a very curt standoffish and unapproachable manner the offer was refused so we asked to speak to the owner, she told us he didn't speak with customers and that we had to pay for what we had been made. We told her we were unhappy to pay, (and although we did, as we are 5 mature and honest nurses) we would not return and would certainly let the general public know that in this establishment there is NO good will for an honest mistake . Phoned to see if we needed to book for Sunday roast for 2 people and they advised to just turn up so we did at 3pm then Was told they had no chicken only beef that was fine, then was told there was no roast potatoes only mash or chips so we ordered one of each, it came out with just one sprout and no cauliflower cheese as advertised in the menu ! And the beef was just eager thin packet meat and the Yorkshire pudding had been in the oven that long it just crumbled!The table we sat at was dirty and I had to ask for it to be cleaned, we sat and waited to be served and in the end I ended up asking at the bar to be served , the glass that came with my bottle beer was filthy ! When we complained about the roast they offered us a ten percent discount with No apology when we refused to pay and didn’t eat the meal they took the meal away and presented us with our drinks bill straight away when I refused to pay this because of the disgusting customer service we had received the manager confronted me in front of a courtyard full of customers as I was walking out the place as to why I was refusing to pay for my drinks which I found amazing that she would want to cause a scene in front of a lot of customers ! Oh and on visiting the toilets caught sight of the kitchens and after seeing that you wouldn’t want to eat from here anyway ! AVOID AVOID...
