Very disappointing, first visit last Saturday and won't be coming again. Was asked to queue in the front (understandable) by the bouncer, who then just disappeared and left us standing there for around 15mins (no social distancing). Was then taken to the upstairs terraced area by a front of house staff. Berry basic cocktail was very good, one friend ordered a martini but was brought a margarita instead but she said it tasted nicer so she actually didn't mind. Nice atmosphere but that was more from talking to some lovely Newcastle lasses at the table next to us. Did have perspex barriers but where I was sat towards the middle of the area to the inside of the tables it didn't cover me. Customer service was very mixed. There was a male server (tallish with slight build in a black shirt) that was obviously having a bad day. We asked twice when he was stood near us if we could order and ignored both times, finally got an order and my friend ordered a sisha, after what seemed ages I just asked for an update when I was coming back from the toilet where the bar staff just pointed to his right and said it was coming whilst said server just stood there behind me. The server then brought us it and said "just so you're aware it's actually only been 20minutes and it takes 15 minutes to set up" and walked away before we could ask for more drinks as we'd finished over 20minutes beforehand and ignored the first time we'd asked. (It doesn't doesn't state on the menu it's has a set-up time nor did the server state anything when my friend ordered and paid so how was we to know, also didn't come with the disposable ends like everyone else received). Can't comment on the sisha itself as didn't use it. However the lovely gentleman in the gray shirt who looked like he was doing the job of 2 guys and clearly needed a break was very sweet, apologised and made sure we were sorted for drinks but I left shortly after as it has put dampening edge onto our night and I couldn't enjoy myself. Star for the nice server and star for the good drinks. Star off for each time the other...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe ate there today and I am giving this place a 5 star review not because everything went perfectly but because actually it didn't quite....but the staff couldn't have handled the situation any better which I think deserves a positive review.
We had booked a table for 4 at noon, however when we got there the restaurant had experienced some issues earlier in the day with their electricity supply meaning they simply could not accommodate us at 12pm and we were given the option to hang around in the bar or come back at 12.30pm - as they were clearly still trying to get the place ship shape we quickly decided to come back in half an hour. Not their fault the leccy had gone off earlier and rather than being one of those people who seem to lurk on the internet looking to be offended by everything in the hope of a free meal we were accepting of the fact that we would have to wait a little long er to eat...no big deal really.
When we got back they were ready for us and we actually were given our drinks and extra burger toppings for free which we really didn't expect and was a really nice touch - we hadn't made a fuss and they really didn't need to do that at all.
The food was canny, really nice actually - we all had a burger and chunky chips - proper sized portions all round and we all went away satisfied and our faith in humanity a little more restored because of the way they handled the situation and explained things to us from the outset.
It really was a very friendly place, as it was early i think we were the only people in there but the atmosphere was relaxed, the people on shift were 'just the right amount' of attentive - nothing worse IMO than a waiter constantly asking you if everything is ok but the lad who served us our food was great and as he was a fellow Geordie he got a better tip than I'd...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent into this bar last night on a rare night in town with a few friends.
We had been in about an hour when staff told me I had to leave because a woman in the bar had complained I had been staring at her.
No ambiguity, this did not happen. We were a self-contained group, sat by ourselves and sober, simply talking amongst ourselves. I'm sure the bar's CCTV footage will bear this out when it is reviewed.
I was completely and utterly shocked and left without issue. Having slept on it though I believe further action is appropriate because I have been left utterly embarrassed and ashamed with absolutely no justification. The doorman on duty was incredibly rude and bolshy. I hope he was wearing a body cam so I can review the incident. The bar staff, to their credit, seemed embarrassed to be asking me to leave.
I'm a middle aged man who goes out incredibly rarely nowadays. After this incident I shouldn't imagine I will bother again. The hospitality trade is dying and until last night I thought this was a real shame. Now I'm...
