This former hotel up a side-street near Brighton station is a dark horse, because The Edinburgh (or The Eddy to all familiar with it) has won not 1 but 2 Bravo awards, having been voted the best pub in Brighton 2 years running. The landlady Hatty tells me that she’s a bit of an old-school landlady, she even has a card system for curbing antisocial behaviour which she thinks has made the pub a far more pleasant place to come in her years in charge. That’s no mean feat considering The Eddy is predominantly a sports pub. There are 5 good sized screens throughout and it’s a source of pride that no matter where you sit you get a good view of a TV. Where The Eddy Brighton excels, and probably why the locals love it so much, is the unique events. Hatty and her sister Jess throw themselves into the production, Jess bringing her skills as a prop designer, and Hatty her hostessing, to create events to remember. Went to this pub last night for the first time with some friends for the football, was shushed by the landlady within minutes. It felt like an environment not curated specifically for sports fans. I wouldn’t say I’m a particularly rowdy football fan. I took a picture of the rules that are stuck to each table so you know what you are getting yourself into. There was a table in front of ours that clapped at one point in the game and the landlady came over in a flash and and shushed them too. Maybe no clapping should be added to the rules below. I can’t say it was my cup of tea and I won’t be going back however in the interest of balance it’s only fair point out all the other staff were very pleasant.

Fabulous local and amazing atmosphere. We couldn't have been made to feel more welcome by Hatt and the team since moving to Brighton last year. Also had the pleasure of celebrating the New Year in. Can't recommend highly enough

I visit bright quite regularly and lived there for 5 years, trying out many different pub roasts as there are a lot to choose from most are at the same price point but the food can differ drastically. The roasts at the Eddy has to be the best I have come across in Brighton, every element was cooked to perfection, melt in the mouth meat, crispy potatoes, and a huge Yorkshire with a delicious gravy to match. Another thing about the roast offeree is that you get a generous portion of sides greens, carrots, and cauliflower cheese when some pubs charge extra. The staff was great and very attentive asking if we need anything else and the chef came out to ask how the food was which was a nice touch and shows that he cares about the food he serves to customers. I would definitely recommend the Eddy and can't wait to come back again and maybe try the...

Since new landlords have taken over the pub now doesn't feel the same, me and a few of my friends where there one night a few weeks ago, we spent all together over £300 but 1 of us got a bit rude to the landlord and we where ALL instantly barred and told non of us where to come back again. Feels like a major abuse of my trust, after spending so much and not of personally done anything to antagonize the staff working there to just get thrown out. The member of staff that asked us to leave was even more difficult as he tried to manhandle 1 of us to get them to leave, he was on crutches at the time. And even though had a bit much was trying to be competent, how dare they manhandle people in the first place, but especially as was willing to leave on...
