The Empress — Restaurant in England

I am giving this place a 5 star for the kindness of a front door security man. He saw me and my child standing in the rain waiting to be picked up last Sunday. He came across the road with the umbrella and just gave it to us. People are not kind anymore and usually prefer to stick their faces into the phone screen that to look around and help… this is why we massively appreciate the gesture. Real gentleman. Went for lunch here today,had the quiche,chips peas and salad. The quiche was a bought in one and was warmed up in the microwave as was all the pasty products,it was awful soft pastry is not nice. The sandwiches looked lovely,wish I'd had one of them. The bar staff were nice and friendly but can't say that for the chap who was behind the food counter dressed in black and another lady,no smile of greeting...

Very dated now. Still as busy as it was back in my day late 70's 80's. It was,how shall I put it, rammed. Wasn't a pleasant experience by the time I had been served and moved away from the bar area I had lost half my drink down someone's back.
