Having read some wonderful reviews about the Ship Inn we detoured our journey in the hope of getting a Sunday dinner. Parking is hard to find and it's on a main road but it appeared to be very popular. We ordered the roast beef dinner and it arrived quite quickly just as the table near us were ordering their food, during their order they were asked if they wanted Cauliflower Cheese with their roasts? I point that question out as it was not an offer bestowed upon us, which I was taken aback by. When the food arrived it looked amazing - mouth watering even - unfortunately this was short lived as when we started to Tuck into our food, we discovered the potatoes were watery and the meat was fatty and tough, in total it was not what we expected, neither of us ate the meat and I also left the potatoes. We paid the bill and left very disappointed.

I received a warm welcome as I popped in to the ship inn today. A very kind gentleman closely resembling Harry Hill even showed me to a fabulous upstairs seating area. This was perfect for a warm summers day as the breeze through the bifolds was most welcome. The food came promptly and was home cooked. On Mondays it’s even half price! A surprise find as I don’t often cross over the river. The Ship Inn is situated on the river Dee bridge. On this occasion I was walking but suspect there’s a small car park opposite. The ground floor is accessible and has a loo situated here for those with mobility or creaky knees you should be fine. Nice beer lovely food and very welcoming staff I highly recommend and won’t leave it so long to cross the river next time!

Really nice place, we are far from local but booked this in advance as we were staying in Chester. Its dog friendly, has a lovely atmosphere, very knowledgeable staff and most importantly very nice food. 6 of us all ordered different meals and they were all very good, i had a 10oz rump which ended up being way better than I expected, would highly recommend. The Steak and ale pie was stated to be the best pie she had ever had, its a proper pie not one of these casserole dish with a puff top, so to marks on the proper pie. The only negative thing we could say was the chunky chips were a little undercooked, still abit powdery and missing a slight crunch. But we could have just got a badly timed batch. Many thanks and we will certainly return.

On my recent trip to a conference in England I elected to have dinner here on the way back to the boat home. I booked it online and arrived a few minutes early. I was glad that I had booked because it was getting busy and lots of tables were reserved (including mine). They let you book for just a party of one which is ideal for me, and unfortunately a lot of restaurants don't allow this which makes it difficult for single folks like me. The service was warm and friendly from start to finish. The menu has plenty of options but not so many options that you're paralysed by choices. I had the fish and chips. I was very glad that you can change the mushy peas to ordinary garden peas, not sure what was wrong with ordinary peas as everything seems to be mushy now. They offer a small or large portion of fish and chips, which is just wonderful if you're not hungry enough for a bigger portion. The fish was fresh and the batter perfectly done. The chips were dry and lovely, as you desire in a chip. The peas were excellent. I had three scoops of ice cream for desert, which was beautiful and locally made. I wanted the bill but had to go to the counter to get it and pay, not a problem however. I paid £16.44 for fish and chips (large), three scoops of ice cream and a pint of coca cola. Smashing value for money! I would highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning when I'm next in Chester! Highly...

Unfortunately we found dinner at the Ship Inn to be deeply uninspired and disappointing. We dined upstairs, where there was a distinct lack of atmosphere, eating at a badly marked table with noticeable cobwebs and marks on the walls, lights and ceiling.

I had the burger and chips. The chips and burger bun, lettuce and bacon were all good. The burger was apparently a 6oz steak burger - this clearly wasn't the case; it tasted identical to an end-of-night burger van burger and was severely disappointing. For £16, this isn't good enough. One of our party had the vegan moussaka and said it was atrocious.

The desert was apparently very nice (I didn't have any), but I suspect a microwave was involved (as with the mains I feel). The only highlight was that service was attentive and polite.

I wouldn't recommend dining at the Ship Inn - the food just wasn't anywhere near the standard you'd expect for a Saturday evening meal. The Ship has three floors and had 3 wait staff on our floor alone. I recommend that time and money should go into refurbishing and updating the interiors and improving the quality of ingredients.

It's in a lovely location with a lot of competition from neighbouring pubs in a beautiful city - it needs...

Went on short notice for a Sunday afternoon meal (17th Dec). They managed to squeeze us in (phoned to book 2 hours previous). Having never been before I didn't know what to expect, but I'm glad we went. The interior is great, really warm, homely, big log fire keeping out the winter chill. The staff were brilliant, really attentive without any falseness that you get in some places. The food was fantastic. Roast Beef Dinner and a Steak and Ale pie with mash. The roast Beef was well cooked and sliced nice and thick, the Gravy was fantastic and the veg was perfectly cooked, hot and crunchy. The pie (my order) was well filled, the meat was really tasty, and the pastry was great, again, good veg, tasty gravy , and a big helping of lovely fluffy mash. Deserts.... We almost said no as we were quite content after the main. But we folded and ordered Raspberry cheesecake with raspberry ripple and a Sticky Toffee pudding with custard. Both were generous portions and tastes great. Nice hot custard on the sticky Toffee pudding. 👍 All in all, a great meal, would definitely recommend. (Would also recommend booking...
