We woke up on a sunny saturday in London, deciding to head to Brighton at the request of my Southern Italian girlfriend so she could return to the Regency Restaurant for some seafood. I was more than happy to do so, as I was craving seafood too.
As we approached the restaurant it was sat on a corner looking out onto the sea, and when you walk in you get a similar feeling of fishing with the big open restaurant and decor reminiscent of doing that. When inside you can look out onto the ocean getting that connection and a reminder, your food came from what you see in front of you. The sea.
We were warmly welcomed into this busy yet calm restaurant, with everyone seeming to enjoy their food. However the other noticeable thing was the amazing smells you inhale as you breathe in the whiff of sea air from the fresh food being served. As we sat down to order our food we decided on getting a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc to accompany the classic English prawn cocktail starter before we would enjoy "The Mediterranean" main course. While waiting for the food it was noticed the staff were a mixture of Greek and Portuguese folks, and that for me added validation the food was going to be very good as people from those parts of the world know how to cook seafood well.
First our Prawn Cocktail arrived and it was very tasty for a simple dish, with the freshness from the prawns tasted with every bite. However the grand show was the arrival of "The Mediterranean" main course we ordered, and when it arrived it was a dish fitnfirnthe gods. Seeing a nice piece of hake on top of an assortment of shellfish had my eyes salivating, with smells anyone would die for. While we started eating and noticed all the juices from the cooking, we asked for some bread. Adding pieces of bread to the plate I realised how great this dish was just from the taste of the bread, once it had soaked up all the goodness on the bottom of the plate.
There are reasons my girlfriend wanted to come back to the Regency Restaurant, which I now understand and would happily return. When you are welcomed as if you entered a family home full of love and can have great conversations with staff, before experiencing the amazing food and ambiance of this restaurant. You know this restaurant is a gem to Brighton and England.

Read moreLovely Brighton has so many things to offer!! Especially I prefer seafood which was nice in the Regency Restaurant!! BUT they must do something with chips which were inedible and brought down the number of stars in this review đ§Essentially staff just ignored this complaint and did not do anything. đ§đ§đ§
We arrived after five and were pleased by their hospitality and help with buggy, etc. Took a table near the counter (a bit noisy but ok as long as our kid sleeps). It was confusing to see many waiters coming and asking if we had ordered or what we wanted etc but fineđ. We ordered seafood spaghetti and buttered cod with chips. All brought very quickly. I did not count but would say 5-7 mins. How come so fast for not fast-foodđ- I thought. Though my spaghetti was awesome and hard to spoil, my wifeâs chips did not go well with nice fish. Basically the chips were plastic-like and so much salty and this mix made it just non unrecognisable chemical substance of strange white ish colour. đĄI tried and confirmed their poor taste. đ¤ŹThough I can say 50% of chips were ok other half shouldâve been thrown back to the chief. đSo I tried to communicate this to member of staff who said like âwe do not add salt. Some chips might be dry and it is fineâ(What??? We were not born yesterday and it was not our first fish and chips). He took some pieces to show them to those who cooked but further we did not have any response just ignorance though he was passing by many times.đ Impression was spoiled. 12% was to be paid for service (!!!!) and we say thank you to very friendly waiters who helped us with buggy and did their best to serve quickly and tasty but please do something with chips as I have just found that we were not the first who...
Read moreI have been eating here for around 15 years maybe longer . The last two visits one in April and other was only yesterday .around 5 pm was not too busy we sat outside and all four members of staff chatting amongst themselves eventually we were able to put our order in . Starter first calamari then waited 20 mins to come and ask have we finished out starter . Haddock and chips ordered x 2 waited another 10 mins for this to arrive . Kept being asked how is the food which has not happened before . I told the waiter the fish is dry he said not try it again and I said leave it we waited ages for this to cook . The plate is not big as they use to be . The fish is thin and hardly any meat inside . I did actually tell him The last time we came my fish hardly had any meat inside it was only batter and skin and I should have Reuther it but I did not complain . Yesterdays fish was a little better but thatâs it now after 15 years of good service until this year this restaurant no longer serves good quality fish they use to serve larger oval plates exceptional quality fish that was so meaty and overlapped the plate . Iâm now done and will never return . No idea why they have gone down not sure if new owners or new chef but Iâm not paying ÂŁ60âfor two people for poor quality fish that is now half the size hardly any meat and the chips are served with lots of broken chips from the bottom of frier . Donât waste your money on this place unless they bring the quality of food back to the way...
