The seahorse has taken over what used to be Brighton Beach Club and they have tarted up the outside which was so needed … we thought we’d give it a go after walking on the Prom, from Marocco’s. The menu looked appetising. We first ordered wine while we perused the menu. My partner ordered a Malbec and I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc. This did not start well…. Firstly my partner's wine tasted like pure red wine vinegar and had to be swapped for another. My wine arrived along with the 2nd Malbec both in dirty smeared glasses of which the waitress brought two more ‘clean’ glasses. I don’t know who does the training, but to let your young staff know, to not serve glasses with their fingers around the top of the glass where the customer has to drink. Serve with your hand at the stem or if you are serving water, serve with your hand at the bottom of the glass. I don’t want to drink where someone’s fingers has touched around the rim…(Common sense, really?) We ordered a few small plates rather than main courses as we weren’t hungry enough for a main. We ordered the lamb skewers which were very nice, the lamb was tender and well marinated. We also had the humous with flat bread, which was well seasoned and tasty and we shared the pork loin which was also ok and vegetable tempura… I wouldn’t bother with this dish, as the batter was not a ‘tempura’ batter, it was thick fish and chip batter! They had battered some avocado which was odd, as too soft. The dipping sauce for this was too runny and sweet. The staff are young an inexperienced but very sweet and pleasant. Now we come to the toilets in the lower restaurant…. No refurbishment done here! If I had visited the loo before ordering food, I would have left. The ladies toilets are not checked and are smelly and disgusting… one toilet had no seat the other toilet I could not enter for reasons I will not go in to and the one I used, the sanitary bin is half blocking the door and the loo doesn’t flush and the seat was loose… toilet paper everywhere for goodness sake, you have not been opened for long and these basic things that customer feel comfortable with, like good hygiene??! ...and at least the toilets being usable! These are fundamental things that need urgent addressing along with the sticky tables! Such a fantastic location - we have been coming here for years when it was the Alfresco restaurant. Unfortunately, we will not...
Read moreThis place used to be “Al Fresco” restaurant before and it was our favourite place in Brighton for almost 10 years. So it was quite disappointing to see this “eating place” instead of the previous one. We came here for coffee because of the sea view. The restaurant was absolutely empty yet they only allowed us to sit on the tables next to the entrance, with no sea side view at all (which was the reason we came there in the first place) we also asked if we could sit downstairs (also completely empty) but that was not allowed for some reason either. They did not explain why and there seemed to be no banquet or group booking. I don’t think any client would appreciate this kind of service but we wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. So we sat down and ordered coffee. I had no idea it was possible to ruin coffee so badly. I’m not sure it was coffee at all. It was extremely bland with just a cup of luke warm water. There was barely any coffee, both in the Americano and Cappuccino. Instant coffee would have been a better option. If this is the effort they put into their coffee I’m not sure I want to find out how they make they’re food (but I can’t judge that, since we only tried the cheese board and that doesn’t require much cooking does it?). This used to be the best cafe with a beautiful view, and even after the restaurant change we were still happy to give it a try and would have been happy to visit, if we were not so disappointed. We would love to see this place with great service, food and drinks however this is not the case and if they wish to compete with the neighbouring restaurant they’ve got a lot of...
Read moreWe had our wedding at The Seahorse last weekend and what a day it was. From the moment I made contact with Bex (the bookings manager) the whole process was a dream. From start to finish we were supported and communicated with efficiently. It was honestly like having a wedding planner. Bex especially went absolutely above and beyond, answering the multitude of questions I threw her way with grace and knowledge , kept me in the loop always, partook in multiple meetings with us and suppliers, recommended ideas and so much more. I can’t put into words how helpful she was and how it made our whole experience so seamless. We couldn’t have done it without Bex. I was never made to feel too much and she did all of this with such enthusiasm and patience. She is a true super hero and such an incredible person. On the actual day everything ran completely to plan and I felt everyone was on board. The food was amazing, the service impeccable and our guests were ranting and raving about it too. The seahorse itself is such a beautiful venue, a gorgeous view, affordable, completely customisable and full of brighton charm. We hired the bottom floor which also gave us access to both downstairs outdoor terraces as well. The bottom level was ample room for our party of 120 guests. I actually can’t thank The Seahorse enough. If you are thinking about getting married here, without a doubt absolutely do it. Our wedding day was perfect and The staff at The Seahorse have so much to do with this. Absolutely 10\10 in all areas, I wouldn’t change a thing. Thank you a million times over. Love...
