This may possibly be the worse hotel I've ever stayed in. The decor is very tired overall but the room I stayed in made it even worse. I booked two basement double rooms for a business trip. On our way to the room there was a black bin liner in the way of the door downstairs we had to step over. When we got to the rooms my door handle was semi broken making it difficult to get my key in. My room was a good size but looked like it was part of a WW2 museum. The curtains were half hanging off, it took me some time to adjust them so no one could see in but they weren't 100%. Upon opening the door to the bathroom I was nearly knocked back by the smell. The drains absolutely stank. I had to leave the extractor fan on and shut the door. When I went in I had to hold my breathe. I couldn't even drink the water at the tap as it said it wasn't safe to do so!? The pierce of metal that keeps the carpet and tiles separate in the doorway of the bathroom was half ripped up presenting a safety hazard. I didn't take a picture of the shower unfortunately but it was disgusting. I avoided the shower as I felt cleaner not going near it. Not ideal on a business trip! My bed was Horribly uncomfortable and a made up of two singles even though I booked a double room. I slept terribly and also heard every footstep above me. When we left for a meal in the evening you have to leave the key behind reception, there's a sign that says leave valuables behind reception as they couldn't guarantee safety in the room. This was reassuring considering my work laptop, word documents and iPad were all in the room. I was on edge all night because of this. My colleague also complained that he couldn't turn his shower off and that it was on when he left the room. The receptionist was nice but said sorry but there's no maintenance in until the morning. Basically telling him tough. The breakfast the next day was in a dining room that looked like it had been abandoned for several years and left to go to ruin until the guests walked in at 8am. All the full English was in one medium sized electric food heater with different compartments. You had to lift the lids to find out what you got. When I found the bacon it was swimming in water or liquid. It wasn't the best quality bacon or taste nor was the coffee. Overall I couldn't wait to get out of that hotel, I felt completely ripped off. The only benefit to this experience was it was located close to the conference centre and briefly during my terrible breakfast I could see he sea. I can't speak for the other guests in other rooms but i would not recommend. The next day we had an apology for the shower keeping me colleague awake all night followed by 'we only fixed it last week, we'll take a look at it today' which wasn't much help considering we were checking out... Awful!

I have to say, much better than I expected and much better in person. Firstly the girls at reception were so nice, warm and welcoming. Very nice to be greeted like this upon arrival. The room we got was absolutely spotless so well done to the cleaners they deserve the credit there 👍 room extremely big and spacious, we got a lovely square view and view of the sea. The bed was extremely comfortable, and pillows were just perfect, shower was excellent and the pressure was just right. Basic breakfast every morning, yogurts, orange juice, cereal, and you can request hot food (bacon, mushrooms, beans, sausages, scrambled egg, brown / white toast, tea / coffee) staff were lovely and attentive. You have to leave your key into reception every time you leave - for me this is no issue at all, and in my line of work I found this extremely safe and for the staff to know who is coming / going and requesting keys. The radiator in the room was an added bonus so glad that was there as we arrived home late one night drowned all our clothes wet so was nice to warm up quickly. We did not use a car to get around - but in the regency square it’s approximately £22/£25 for 24 hours - steep unless you have a permit. Overall, impressed and for the price you pay in this nice area was a bonus. Highly recommend if you want something reasonable and comfortable this is the place. It’s old, yes (or vintage some would say) but place very quiet which was great. Felt safe and secure, ps; the restaurant beside this hotel is mouthwatering and delicious (room service) thank you 🙏🏼 Only negative ‼️ too much butter or oil was laced in the hot breakfast items couldn’t eat it or enjoy it at all. Bedroom lock takes getting used too. Noting major. 5 stars from me 🙌🏼

*(REVIEW AMENDED AFTER EMAILING COMPLAINT) Fine if you're not bothered about actually sleeping. Rooms were a tad shoddy tbh, lots of things broken, shower head wasn't even attached, the door didn't lock, and the position of our door meant that whenever anyone opened the adjoining door in the corridor it smacked against our door and woke us up. Other guests were very loud and played music until early hours of the morning despite "hotel policy" supposedly stopping this from happening. When we spoke to the receptionist in the morning she simply said "we haven't had any complaints before" and said she would "go and check it out" after we had left. I'm usually not one to complain about stuff like this but this time I'll be sending a detailed email of complaints and photos over because although it was one of the cheaper hotels in Brighton at the time, I still feel we grossly overpaid for the stay that we ended UP having. * After emailing these complaints to the hotel, we received a rude sarcastic response basically saying because these issues were not reported the very second they happened, there was nothing that could be done. Aswell as suggesting that our negative experience at the hotel was our own fault in not doing so. I would strongly advise against staying here, not only for the overpriced shabby conditions of the hotel but also the rude way they treat their customers.

Really wanted to like this place due to its good location. But unfortunately the only other plus was that the size of the room was decent.

We arrived after 15:30 to find the people in front of us be told their room was not even ready. Check in clearly states 15:00. After a nightmare with the trains, this wasn’t what we hoped to walk into. It came to our turn and the man behind the desk did not have a clue - he asked which room number we’d booked. We booked a room via booking.com, not a room number specifically. He saw our confusion, sighed and quickly said “don’t worry, I’ll have a look” something which he should’ve done anyway. He then proceeded to give us the key and say “the room should be ready” but he wasn’t sure and “if it wasn’t to come let him know….” Sorry but out of all the places / countries we have stayed we have never heard such a thing before upon checking in. We then go upstairs to our room. I don’t know exactly if there had been a leak or something but jeeeeez, the odour hit you as you walked up the stairway and in the upstairs corridor. It smelt like strong mould/damp etc and was not pleasant at all. Thank god our room didn’t smell like this because we wouldn’t have been able to stay in it!!!!

Then housekeeping. We have never ever encountered such rude and unprofessional behaviour within a hotel. We stayed 2 nights and each morning we were woken by them. But the second morning really upset us. They woke us up after a late night at 9:20 by banging loudly on our door. Eventhough we had the do not disturb sign on it. They rudely told us we needed to check out. Check out time clearly states 11am. We replied loudly through the door and they appeared to walk off. They then did this again an hour later. To which we said check out was at 11am. Again they walked off. No apology or anything. We were so frustrated at the time we couldn’t even speak with reception as we just wanted to leave. But it is not good enough. And no paying guest should be made to feel as though they need to rush out of the building because housekeeping can’t manage...
