Friendly staff, not buggy friendly. Excuse my ignorance, but if I wanted to eat Korean bibimbap, I would have gone to next door. Seeing it on the menu of Japanese restaurant that emphasis on sushi make me doubt the authenticity. The eel Californian roll - the eel and avacado was so stingily sliced, it offered no flavor, no texture what so ever, and the roll falls apart if you pick them up with chopsticks, use your hand! The portion size you get with the close to £10 price for 8 pieces of roll is borderline robbery. The tune nigiri and tamago nigiri we ordered - tuna and tamago slice look to be pre cut with precision, as in almost as if they were measured and cut with tool rather than a chef knife. The rice underneath the slices are laughable when you turn the piece over, they are made by those sushi making tools rather than by hand. We also ordered grilled aubergine with miso, I have never seen such a thin layer of miso and shiny layer of miso on a piece of aubergine. I don't understand all the positive reviews here, order a coke as beverage, you get the 200ml mixer version. Order sushi or roll, soy sauce is brought to you in a tiny dish. Some call the rolls fusion, I call that flat out scam. If you don't mind the stingy portion and high price, Japanese inspired Korean restaurant, go...
Read moreI was looking for a japnese restaurant that served Pork Katsudon and checked their menu via google maps and was disappointed to when we arrived that the did not have Pork Katsudon, they had Pork Katsu which is a very different dish. I ordered the pork katsu hoping my craving would be satisfied but I was still disappointed because the dish is dry despite the katsu sauce served with it. We ordered other dishes: Takoyaki, Chef's Teardrop (salmon lover roll), and Spider Roll. The Takoyaki was nothing special, it tasted like the frozen takoyaki we buy at asian supermarkets. The Chef's teardrop tasted wonderful as I am a salmon lover but I wish it had more rice and was bigger. The winning dish for me is the Spider Roll! The batter and seasoning of the soft shell crab was amazing! We are not locals and this is our first time dining here, and there is a small chance we will come back as they do not serve my favourite dish: Pork Katsudon. Service is amazing, food was served in good time and the staff are very friendly and professional. I loved the atmosphere and decors, felt authentically Japanese. They had spacious toilets for men and women with a baby changing area but not disabled friendly as it...
Read moreOne of the few authentic Japanese restaurants in Brighton offering classic and modern versions of sushi.
Plenty of seating in traditional style decor , nice relaxing piano renditions of studio ghibli soundtrack too.
The Brighton roll is an excellent example of a modern take - the tart spicy mayonnaise (made in house) and sweet teriyaki sauce complement the crispy battered prawn within these inside-out rolls. Nice crunchy texture flying fish roe as well. Looking forward to trying the other signature rolls…!
Omekase (chefs choice) sushi was expertly constructed in the open kitchen - yellowfin , yellowtail, aburi seared salmon and surf clam nigiri with generous portions of sashimi. Miso soup included.
Quality and presentation were very good on this platter.
Dessert of yuzu flavoured ice cream - very pleasant , citrus notes and creamy vanilla well folded in.
Genmaicha served in a traditional cast iron pot with complementary top ups.
Service was exemplary from the friendly staff who were more than happy to answer any questions.
Overall, happy to recommend this restaurant for sushi and other...
