I was really looking forward to this â my 50th birthday celebration with the family â so letâs start with the good news: the food was great!
Now for the not-so-great newsâŠ
We were greeted by what was presumably meant to be mood music â a live saxophone player â but it was so loud it triggered the âLoud Musicâ alert on my phone (over 90dB!). So began the eveningâs main activity: trying to have a conversation while shouting over a sax solo that wouldnât have been out of place at Glastonbury. We played the familiar restaurant game of âPlease could you turn the music down?â, which was honoured⊠for a couple of songs. Then it crept back up again like a bad 80s remix.
As for the service â well, letâs just say it was more hide and seek than hospitality. The staff were largely missing in action, preferring to chat amongst themselves while we attempted to flag them down like stranded travellers in the desert. When the food did arrive, it was genuinely lovely â but then came the bill, which bore only a passing resemblance to what weâd actually ordered.
The floor manager was very apologetic and explained theyâd only just reopened after a refurbishment that day â which, in fairness, might explain the chaos. Still, it felt less like teething problems and more like a full-blown molar extraction.
Oh, and the live saxophonist? Completely uncontrollable. Iâm not sure what was more upsetting â the volume or the fact he absolutely butchered Careless Whisper.
And the famed rooftop bar? Also a no-show. Apparently closed.
So yes, great food â but everything else needs a bit of a rethink. Or at the very least, a...
Read moreVisited SEBU around 2 months back for dinner and I must say the food is really terrible and the chefâs a snob, let me break it down for you, started off with ordering Titos BBQ skewers in chicken for ÂŁ 9 got 2 small skewers with hardly 6 pieces of chicken on it the taste was pretty mid with bland flavours, got crispy pork belly, most of the pork was burnt to crisp and absolute charcoal 50% of the dish was burnt as it was served on a sizzler plate where the pork was already overcooked and burnt, the dish was floating on a lot of pork fat after having a few bites asked the waiter to get this back to the chef and have a chat about it, the chef replied saying thatâs how it should be, like seriously? Thereâs a fine line between the pork being crispy and burnt to charcoal, went on to have Escabeche for ÂŁ28, the salmon was overdone and was absolutely rubber , with that sauce being absolutely tangy and disgusting for a ÂŁ28 dish the salmon was such a small portion not even 150 gm of meat , having worked in hospitality for over 2 years the general rule of thumb is to serve more than 150gm of meat for any dish over ÂŁ15 and donât change the guest for burnt food. We were absolutely disgusted to find out we were charged for the crispy pork belly which was absolutely un edible, get a grip on...
Read moreThis place was unreal. My wife took me here for my birthday, i heard about it from a friend as i didn't even know it existed. I had the pork skewers to start with and it was cooked perfectly, my wife had mushroom bruschetta again really nice. I had the fillet steak and asked for it rare, it was cooked exactly how i like it and it tasted amazing. I got the mushroom sauce with it which ia similar to diane, my wife got the chicken burger and she seemed to love it. There are 2 draught options for lager, i tried both and wasn't a fan of the sebu beer as it was really light, like a bud light taste, so i got the Asahi beer that was a lot better, we shared a bottle of prosecco and i got a glass of red wine. The staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for us, one of the lads who worked there heard it was my birthday and got me a cocktail on him which was really kind. Atmosphere was really quiet but i think it's because we went on a sunday night, next time we go it will be on a Friday or Saturday night. The rooftop views are lovely and the ropftop beer garden is nice, highly recommend this place for anyone celebrating a special occasion or a...
