Some times there are places where you desire the special experience, the quality ingredients, expertise, local produce and genuine service - that just don't deliver. You leave feeling a little frustrated, robbed of the exchange of vulgar coin for quality and care. Thankfully, I can report this not one of those places! It is easy to access with a friendly welcome. There is no pressure, you are not rushed. There is music and comfort, relaxing from the offset. I'm a hoary 42 year old dad, my daughter an inquisitive 11 year old that never clears her plate. I chose my staple favourite of belly pork, with fondant potato, cabbage and beautifully green shoots. It was truly decadent, the pork was beautifully smooth, lightly seasoned to enhance it's specific flavour, and the fondant potato was wonderfully cooked, sweet and buttery. The red wine thyme just was outstanding; a true mix of 80s flavours, but with modern technique that produce a wonderful, comforting yet vibrant savoury note that enhanced the dish. I paired this with the Domains mazilly Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes de Beaune, which worked wonderfully to match the savoury note of the jux, whilst matching the sweetnes inherent in belly pork. My daughter adores Mac & cheese (much to my chagrin) and normally consumes a few mouthfuls before declaring herself full. This time she cleared the bowl, ate the accompanying peas and savoured the remaining jux from me with her mashed potato. Despite this decadence; I had wine yes unembibed, so we ordered dessert. I thoroughly enjoyed a specially prepared cheese board with amazing crackers, whilst my daughter chose her usual vanilla ice-cream, and was not disappointed. The wonderful Teresa and JJ that made us feel so comfortable, providing such wonderful dishes and wonderful help, are great examples of caring professionally about customers. Thank you for a special experience for myself and my daughter.

Visited for the first time last Thursday afternoon. It was very quiet, maybe 2 tables occupied yet we waited about 10 mins for someone to come along and seat us. The staff were very friendly and our orders were taken. Our drinks arrived and the glasses were dirty with lipstick on the edge of mine. The food was really nice , big portions and very tasty. We noticed there was wma pile of white powder under the table next to us, someone had stepped in it and walked it all around the restaurant. The table had been set for someone else to sit there. It was very quiet giving the staff plenty of time to clean it up. Just before we left there was a huge crash. An elderly gentleman who was dining with his wife fell of this big step where his table was, the step is really difficult to miss, it needs little lights or a different colour edge . You could tell he was hurt, a member of staff came over ,helped him up and laughing just walked off!! They were very embarrassed and made a quick exit .he should have been sat down and made sure he was ok. We paid and left. On Sunday my husband and 2 friends decided to try it out for breakfast again it was empty, they were ignored and waited ages to be seated. One ordered a Welsh breakfast which had the cockles and lava bread missing. He told staff who apologised. They brought the cockles but left the lavabread under the lights to be collected. He just went and fetched it himself in the end . They said the food was lovely but very small portion. One bacon one sausage etc and for a bill of 62 pounds for 2 breakfasts and very poor service they won't be returning. Its very disappointing as its such a beautiful space, the food it tasty but the lack of service will keep the place empty . Coffee was nice apparently, but very small.

We visited The Welsh House for Father’s Day and had a fantastic experience. The food was spot on—served hot, fresh, and full of flavour. Everything we tried was delicious and really well prepared. The highlight of our visit, though, was the incredible service from our server, Teresa. She was extremely helpful when it came to the food and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. All the baby seats were in use, but she kindly went next door to a neighbouring restaurant to borrow one for us. That kind of thoughtfulness and care is rare—Teresa was absolutely lovely and we couldn’t have asked for better service. As part of their Father’s Day special, they were offering a free pint of Madri, but since I don’t drink alcohol, they had a great alternative—a free soft drink instead. I chose to stick with water, but it was a nice touch and appreciated all the same. All in all, a warm and welcoming experience. We’ll definitely be returning. Thank you again, Teresa!

Food was nice but everything else was very poor. With over £300 spent for lunch not really good enough. Left my number for a manager call back. Be interesting to see if someone does. Had to chase for starter, they asked us what we ordered despite prepaying and pre-ordering. Was put in an outside pod with no decorations, crackers or even salt and pepper on the table. 2 crackers were brought for the children after it was mentioned despite 5 in party. Pointed out the issues to a temporary manager because regular manager was in kitchen. We paid the same as diners in the restaurant yet felt because we had children in the party we were pushed out into the pods. Party either side of us had children too. They offered 25% off our drinks but as we already had one drink and were driving 25% off 3 soft drinks doesn't cut it when £300 was spent. One party member ordered the bread and butter pudding but had to wait was then asked do you want it or take it home in a box? Was eventually brought to the table and was asked in front if the temp manager do you want it? No tea or coffee was offered despite it being paid for as part of the package. I was first there at 1130 am bought a coffee until the others arrived. Booked in at 12 waited 50 mins for starters and didn't leave there till 10 mins to 3. Totally let down by this organisation. 1st time out for xmas lunch too! Total fiasco.(Update manager called back a.m. 26/12/24) who apologised and explained there had been an issue in kitchen a chef had badly burned his arm and was taken to A&E, issue also with another. I explained there were good points, food was nice and nice touch with the little gift for the children of a Christmas beaker. The manager apologised again and asked for us to give the organisation another chance which we will and negotiated for a visit in the future.... UPDATE Sunday 24th January 2025 Return visit offered by manager as a second chance after Christmas Day Lunch. Totally different experience. Service from a pleasant smiley young man, food was lovely, my grandchildren were accommodated and their food was nice. Manager explained about the unfortunate issues that had happened on Christmas day, so we are glad we gave them a second chance. We will return to try the weekday menu in the future..Thank you again for acknowledging there was a customer service issue and addressing it...

It's taken me a while to get around to reviewing...hopefully things have improved. I'll just stick to facts. You can draw your own conclusions. We ate here on a Thursday lunchtime in Feb. We arrived as a table for 4 was leaving. There was no one else there. We were a table of 3. After us came 2 tables for 2, one table for 3 and a table for 4. This makes 14 covers in total. We ordered and were served drinks but waited 55 minutes for our starters. The tables for 2 had finished their mains and the table for 3 was tucking in, well before any of our food arrived. Indeed it was a complaint from the table for 4 that prompted the waitress to apologise to us for the delay. More delay then our starters arrived. Shortly after, the second waitress tried to clear away... before we'd finished. When our mains eventually arrived we ordered a second round of drinks and we were missing a side dish ....with an inevitable wait for that. The side dish eventually arrived but not the drinks. I couldn't attract attention so no drinks. Despite being a huge fan of desserts (and it was my birthday) we decided to just ask for the bill and leave. When asking for the bill I asked to cancel the drinks that had not arrived. The waitress said she'd remove them from our bill, which she did. A few minutes later the second waitress arrived with drinks as a guesture of goodwill...we declined as these were alcoholic and we'd ordered non alcoholic. Hint to restaurant - when people order drinks and you might want to give them what they actually ordered.

During our long wait the chef appeared to be prepping very large quantities of leeks rather than the meals ordered... again hint to restaurant - do your prep before service starts. The 3 of us have all worked in hospitality as chefs and/or front of house so we're pretty patient and tolerant. Obe of the reasons I rarely give bad reviews. However this was really not good. Overall it was a rubbish experience. The food is average pub grub and the...

Beautiful place/food, was put off immediately with a hen-party on a PA System in the beer garden outside, but once inside you couldn't hear the racket too much, but was taken back on arrival....

Food - Really nice and as to be expected at this price point, tasty and fresh starter/mains, i ordered additional vegetables which didn't come with the meal, had to be chased/followed up to make sure they arrived, the desert chocolate brownie tasted brought in, i.e it tasted like it had a packet/wrapper around it at some point which is a shame......

Service - Really poor, after waiting 25 mins for drinks you could see the drinks on the bar waiting i was going to go up myself to collect but were eventually brought to us after asking twice, clearly were short on staff and were run ragged with the hen party outside/bar side which for me was letting the restaurant side down, upon paying i had to get up and walk out to get anyone's attention, then it was announced they were 6 staff down and apologies given, this poor service wasn't reflected in the bill, i paid and left......

I would return again, but NOT on a weekend evening sitting, i like to be able to have a conversation across the table without shouting or filling the other person in on what was just discussed to my right, as the left couldn't hear, and the slow un-attentive service due to staff shortage, another time its a lovely setting/staff/food, just not for me and two others on Saturday 29/06/2024 unfortunately.

Edit.....i see 4 months ago other people complaining about service and the following statement being made -

"The issues you have reported are not to the standards we thrive to achieve. We pride ourselves on our standard of service and endeavour to commit to training the team to ensure that future customers have a pleasant time with us"

Clearly in the last 4 months not a lot has changed, lack of service/front-house is letting...
